I think the Trumpies missed a bet with the kids. Instead of housing both them and the parents, they should simply have held the children *as hostages* and let the parents fend for themselves—at their own expense—until their hearings. This “Austauschkindern” approach would be much less expensive and more efficient.

My ex SIL's mother used to do this and BRAG about it. It was all about the extra money. Every time I saw her she'd be talking about her new car or some ridiculous feature she added on to her house and how she named them for whatever kids were in her care at the time. Like, "Ha ha ha, I call this new pool deck my 'Enrique deck'!" I wanted to kick her in the face.
That people have been saying that drumpf is actually SELLING the disappeared baby girls just got a lot of traction: a Michigan repug on NPR this morning confessed that a group of baby girls ripped from their parent(s) at the border are being jailed near Grand Rapids. Once jailed, they then are drugged and placed in foster care with no intention of returning them to their birth parents, who likely already have been shipped back to the hell-hole they were escaping from without their kid(s). The baby girls are then sold for adoption. (Me and my siblings as children were placed in a foster home for a time and the foster parents did it at least in part for the additional income.)
