Trump Terrorist Spent January 6 Violently Threatening Rep. Hakeem Jeffries's Family, So That's Chilling

Ted Cruz and others who helped incite the January 6 attack on the Capitol just really want us to move on. Come on, it was three weeks ago, and that's ancient history. Can't we forget this all happened so they can take some more shits on democracy to preserve white supremacy? That's what they'd like to know.

What we'd like to know is just how long it's going to take America to grasp that we are dealing with a full-on rightwing terrorist movement inspired by Donald Trump and the GOP. January 6 was merely the day they REALLY started to show their ass like a common ISIS.

Donald Trump directly incited the Capitol attack that morning, but he and his minions had been inciting it for months at that point, because they were all pushing Trump's Hitlerian Big Lie that he had won an election he lost in a landslide. And as the FBI continues to investigate, we're learning that the action that day wasn't just at the Capitol.

A new FBI affidavit filed in the Southern District of New York reveals that on the very same day that domestic terrorists were storming the Capitol to overthrow democracy, some of them clearly intent on assassinating elected officials, a California man by the name of Robert Lemke was busy sending violent, threatening text messages to the families of Democratic Congressman Hakeem Jeffries and journalist George Stephanopoulos, again in service of Trump's Big Lie.

Lemke was arrested on Tuesday in Bay Point, California.

The affidavit begins:

ROBERT LEMKE, the defendant, knowingly transmitted in interstate and foreign commerce a communication containing a threat to injure the person of another, to wit, LEMKE sent threatening text messages to family members of a New York City-based U.S. Congressman ("Congressman-1") and a New York City-based family member of a journalist ("Journalist-1").

Later in the affidavit, we get to read those text messages. These were sent to Jeffries's brother the same day as the Capitol attack. (Jeffries confirmed to MSNBC's Chris Hayes last night that he is "Congressman-1.")

Your brother is putting your entire family at risk with his lies and other words. We are armed and nearby your house. You had better have a word with him. We are not far from his either. Already spoke to [Congressman-1's son] and know where his kids are. . . . your words have consequences. Stop telling lies; Biden did not win, he will not be president. We are not[] white supremacists. Most of us are active/retired law enforcement or military. You are putting your family at risk. We have armed members near your home . . . . . Don't risk their safety with your words and lies.

So according to the complaint, Lemke said he spoke to Jeffries's son, and knew where his kids were. This was happening while Jeffries was in the Capitol trying to not get assassinated by Trump's insurgents. "Stop telling lies; Biden did not win, he will not be president," wrote Lemke. And then, because these people have been so thoroughly fucking brainwashed they think they are the real patriots, the guy claimed that "most of us are active/retired law enforcement or military." (According to Laura Ingraham, we are supposed to feel SO SORRY that mean liberals and Democrats are attacking TheTroops™ like this, just because it appears a number of them have become anti-American terrorists.)

In case the threats weren't clear, Lemke said, "You are putting your family at risk," adding that there were armed people near their house. "Don't risk their safety with your words and lies."

The same day, Jeffries's sister-in-law received this text about her husband, Jeffries's brother:

Lemke Phone: [Victim-2] calm your husband down

Victim-2: Who is this? Your number is only coming up not your name

Lemke Phone: Does that matter? We saw on the hidden camera, he was quite stirred up. You need to have him talk to [Congressman-1]. Thanks

He claimed to be watching them "on the hidden camera." The affidavit states the text message included a picture of a house in Jeffries's neighborhood. We'd love to know how Lemke got these people's phone numbers.

Jeffries told Chris Hayes his brother was getting these texts literally as they were being evacuated from the House floor in DC. He added:

"What was chilling in the message that was received is that this individual said, 'Stop telling lies. Biden did not win. He will not be president,'" Jeffries told Hayes on Tuesday. "And so he was radicalized by the big lie that Donald Trump told and that has been supported by so many Republicans in the House and the Senate."

The same day — again, this is the day of the Capitol attack — one of George Stephanopoulos's relatives got this text message, from the same guy:

"[Journalist-1's] words are putting you and your family at risk. We are nearby armed and ready. Thousands of us are active/retired law enforcement, military, etc. That's how we do it."

The New York Times   confirmed that "Journalist-1" is Stephanopoulos, according to "a person briefed on the investigation."

"That's how we do it," wrote Lemke. They threaten journalists and congressmen, because their Dear Leader has brainwashed them with his Big Lie.

The affidavit includes this screenshot of Lemke's Facebook:

Parents, if you see your kids interacting with somebody whose header picture is that dumpy loser fucking couple from St. Louis pulling guns on Black people, cut off their internet. They might just be talking to a terrorist.

According to Lemke's Facebook, he's former Air Force, and a former sergeant with the sheriff's office in Alameda County, California. The Alameda County Sheriff's Office disagrees. 

According to the Times , the Air Force also says Lemke never served.

Most of Lemke's Facebook posts sound like pretty much any batshit rightwing idiot. This one is disturbing, though:

On or about November 7, 2020, the Lemke Facebook Account posted, "Folks. Be ready for war. Trump has refused to cede. Evidence shows fraud occurred and the Supreme Court cases will be successful. We blockchained and watermarked ballots in 16 states. Trump will prevail.. Spread this message. . . . FAITH my fellow Republicans. Do not give up. Keep an eye out for a variety of protests, and Stop The Steal Facebook groups for updates."

People like Ted Cruz want us to forget this terrorism was incited by them and by Donald Trump and his "Elite Strike Force" of clown lawyers who traversed landscape company parking lots to push the Big Lie that Trump won the election, Joe Biden was stealing it, and the Supreme Court would prove them right. "Be ready for war," Lemke wrote.

We're in a serious situation, y'all. For those who hoped it would just be a new day once Joe Biden was inaugurated, and that we could turn the page on the Trump years, we got bad news. We have to do both at once. We have to follow what the new Democratic leadership is doing in Washington, but we also have to demand accountability and deal with the fact that we have a burgeoning network of active and dangerous terrorist cells in this country, and they're there because of what Donald Trump and the Republican Party did.

As Jeffries noted last night on Twitter, some of those threats may be coming from inside the House:

In related news, Politico reports that the National Guard is now going to have to keep 5,000 troops at the Capitol through Trump's impeachment trial and all the way to the middle of March or so, because that's where the threat level is right now. It's not just the impeachment trial but also the new QAnon conspiracy theory that the REAL inauguration, where Donald Trump will become glorious-leader-for-life, will take place on March 4. We guess that's the next date for The Storm, and when their prophecies don't come to pass on that day, we guess they might get violent again. And then, like any cult, they'll set a new date for The Storm. And when that one doesn't happen ...
