And today in etymology, we look afar, to Olde England:

"Historically, this was common among old England felt-hatmakers who had long-term exposure to vapors from the mercury they used to stabilize the wool in a process called felting, where hair was cut from a pelt of an animal such as a rabbit. The industrial workers were exposed to the mercury vapors, giving rise to the expression "mad as a hatter"".

I wouldn’t be too concerned about fluoride no longer being added to drinking water, After all, here in Germany (and Austria as well) there is no extra fluoride added to the amount that naturally exists in water, and we don’t exactly have an epidemic of kids (or adults) with bad teeth. But maybe that’s partly because preventive dental care is covered in the national health insurance. And maybe fluoridation really does cause low IQ levels. After all, look at how many people voted Trump in for a SECOND term!

I do think maybe people would be less susceptible to this kinda stupid ass nonsense if we took public health seriously, acknowledged conflicts in govt between industry promotion and regulation(USDA) and eliminated those and stopped corporate capture of regulators-that would involve restrictions on who could be appointed as cabinet heads and reduce the number of political appointees to agencies (ours has some if the highest number of pol appointees of any wealthy nation) there’s a reason gop has broken govt (reduced responsiveness, increased time burdens in peope, underfunded and understaffed(same number if employees as 1960!) so they can say “see govt does work!” Then people are ripe for the radicalizing and feeding conspiracy theories/misinfo

Ugh, I remember back in the late '70s when our town was planning on adding fluoride to the municipal water supply and there was a group of old people—yes, John Birchers—who wrote letters to the local newspaper every damn day citing some bullshit about how WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE! They kept it up for years after the fact, until they all died. I'm sure there are new trumpers ready to pick up where they left off (if they haven't already, I don't live there anymore so I don't know). Since fluoride was added, the "water plant," as we called it (my dad worked there) also had a spigot out front that was non-fluoridated and non-chlorinated for all these weirdos to line up and fill their containers with "pure" water. That idea grossed me out even as a kid, considering this facility was literally about 50 yards from the Mississippi.

Imagine RFK's SOTU if he'd been elected. Like a spoon in the garbage disposal.

Trump has said in his rallies, beyond eliminating the Department Of Education, which would make the whole thing irrelevant, that he would eliminate federal funding to any school that has a vaccine mandate...which is pretty much every school in America. And that was BEFORE RFK Jr. started kissing his ass

It figures that Convict Donnie would have his own Dr. Lysenko waiting in the wings, itching to let loose that swarm of bees in his hat. What's next, pyramids to sacrifice prisoners at the top to appease ther gods? Can't you just see Captain Brainworms waving his obsidian knife around to rile up the crowd before his amatuer pericardectomy? And waving the bloody gobbet around to the delight of the bloodthirsty old MAGATS in the stands? Watch out, WWE and NFL, doing away with all the glitz and gossip and giving the fans REAL red meat might be the next big thing.

Hey, even better, RFK Jr wants him to hire that loon running health in Florida to be Surgeon General.

I hope Trumpers know that voting for Kennedy in those states where he remains on the ballot will significantly increase his chances of being in Trump’s candidate.

Ta, Robyn. There will be no cabinet post for RFKJr because there will never again be a Tramp administration. They're all burnt toast.

Wtf. I grew up without fluoride in the water because Portland Oregon takes it's hippie reputation seriously.

All I have to show for it is bad teeth! Sounds like I should have gotten super-powers, super-health . . . . Something. I was Cheated, definitely.

My father and his immediate family grew up in rural areas, on unflouridated water. So did I and my siblings; but by then, flouride was available as a tablet supplement. We took our flouride tablet every morning like some kids take vitamins.

My grandparents, Dad and Dad's siblings all needed some kind of false teeth from their late 40s. In old age, dentures all round.

My siblings and I? Literally perfect teeth. Not a single filling between the three of us.

Yes, it's anecdotal evidence, but it agrees with the scientific consensus, so I get to wave it like it means anything.

That RFK, Jr video illustrates what we'll get when a former heroin addict, current sex pest, manipulative bully, and entitled asshole who has lived a long life of unearned privilege is allowed to disrupt federal agencies with his fact-free, unhinged conspiracy rants. He poses a serious threat to the health and safety of everyone who depends on any of the agencies covered by HHS (which is everyone who lives in the US).
