I am 62 and retiring from teaching this year. My fondest hope is that I may live to be 80, free of dementia, and when someone mentions "Donald Trump," I can say with a clear memory: "Trump who?"

In unrelated but equally hilarious legal news, Elon Musk's lawyer Alex Spiro got into a spat with Mark Bankston, the lawyer who bankrupted Alex Jones on behalf of the Sandy Hook victims. Why? Because Spiro wasn't taking the lawsuit against Musk seriously, and didn't realize he was up against Bankston. Spiro is not licensed to practice law in Texas, and the entire deposition from March is now public record because he fucked up so badly. Bankston has called for sanctions against Spiro for straight up lawyerin' malpractice. https://news.bloomberglaw.com/business-and-practice/musk-lawyer-spiro-faces-sanctions-bid-over-deposition-conduct

The deposition could be performed as a two act stage play. It's hilarious. Musk admitted that he was the one who ran the account pretending to be his own toddler.

“Crooked Judge Juan Merchan is not allowing me to talk, is taking away my First Amendment Rights, he’s got me GAGGED, because he doesn’t want the FACTS behind the Gag to come out,” he posted on his social media site Truth Social. “If this Partisan Hack wants to put me in the ‘clink’ for speaking the open and obvious TRUTH, I will gladly become a Modern Day Nelson Mandela - It will be my GREAT HONOR.” This, from the Guardian.

Somehow I don't see Trump as a Modern Day Nelson Mandela.

Give the nasty old piece of shit 27 years---THEN he'll have something in common with Mandela.

And the judge's daughter is not his spouse. She is not even a person the judge has publicly expressed a desire to date were she not his daughter. The judge, after all, is not Donald Trump, a circumstance for which, if he's a devout man, he probably gives thanks to his Maker.

Sounds to me like Loren Merchan was raised right.

By this logic, since I have Republicans in my family tree, I can't be trusted to be objective either.

Expand full comment

Shoot, my great-grandfather was one of the founders of the Republican Party. Given that, by all reports, he was a honest, upstanding and admired man, I guess I can't be trusted either.

So the judge is going to be influenced by his daughter's job because if PAB is in jail the Democrats will give her more money? Run that one by me again?

"Trump, of course, can’t imagine children living separate lives from their parents or their income not being dependent on whatever harebrained fraud schemes said parents dream up while sitting on their golden shitter."

This is one of the other problems here -- he thinks we're all NepoBabies, just like his idiot failsons

Not that he wouldn't have deliberately tried to ruin their careers if they'd tried to be independent or done anything else

He ignores Tiffany because he hates women and she won't work for him, and he ignores Barron because Barron is taller and Donald is threatened by that.

I really think Mary Trump needs to put out her new autobiographical family systems book a whole lot sooner than September ...

Nice slap down, "get lost buster."

Trump: I am a legal genius, only seven more months to stall and I can declare myself above the law!

Trump’s lawyers: I hope he pays us, I mean he never pays anyone but there’s always a first time, right?

The legal community: Can he do that? Can he do any of this? Eh, let’s just see how it plays out.

The press: Have you heard Biden is old? He’s old!

Everyone else: WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUUUU

I’m still optimistic that the PAB will lose. Of course, he’ll scream “rigged” and “stollen” and try to incite another insurrection. But we’ll be ready for him this time.

Per: an extensive take by Rolling Stone mag (their political reporting is suddenly worth reading, wha?) the Biden Admin has extensive plans to foil a Dump reacharound if the Dems' margin of victory is slim. I sure hope so as I broke all of my glassware when Dubya was "re-elected"

Expand full comment

I hope he loses too, but he’ll find some way out if it and avoid any punishment

Expand full comment

Let's say the PAB gets his wish and a new judge is appointed. The evidence against him won’t change. So what will happen besides him still pissing and moaning as the new judge also ruled against his frivolous motions?

Expand full comment

He’s delaying. Everything he does makes sense when you realize he’s just trying to delay until he becomes President and declare himself immune to everything.

Expand full comment

Serious question: theoretically if this were to occur (noooo) could the DOJ/military be called in to quell this outcome? I'm a Marine Corps brat and still have no idea

Expand full comment

Delay. Then 'too close to the election ' and 'Im nominated so delay more' followed by 'marshall' law

Expand full comment

That would be the only thing that would save him, since these are state charges and he won’t be able to order DOJ to back off

Reminds me of the old joke about the guy on trial for murdering his parents and begs for mercy on account of being an orphan

After that sweetheart bond ruling, I'm convinced that Dump owns the appeals court. They will do his bidding, including reversal of the AG case.

Expand full comment

It amazes me that he continues to make a mockery of all this but no one in the legal system seems to care. “You can’t pay the bond, how about a third of it? Sure, we’ll take an IOU written on the back of a cereal box, seems legit”

Expand full comment

I think the appeals court was signaling it will probably reduce the penalty but the verdict itself will stand.

I’m betting they’ll cut in half, which the PAB still won’t be able to pay.

Expand full comment

Wait, is there new info on the bond ruling? I thought it was shady or some such :(

Expand full comment

It is shady AF. Trump still hasn’t fulfilled the requirement.

"Newsweek" (not news) posted that Ms. James is about to seize Stinky's properties, or something. Katharine Graham must be revolving in her grave, poor lady

I call it "Newsweak", and I hope to Goddess that Ms. James starts taking Shitler's stuff -- if there's anything that isn't mortgaged to oblivion.
