As a former clergy-type and now an atheist, I would personally prefer to look at why human "creations" of god or gods are like that. The Eucharist is more than a "faint echo" of blood-drenched altars; in Roman theology it is the re-sacrifice and produces the actual body and blood of their savior. In other words, such things are still within our culture.
Why do bad things happen to good people? No one knows, but maybe if we throw a virgin into a volcano or kill a supposed witch we can satisfy god/gods and they'll stop hurting us. Since life doesn't come with a User's Manual or a phone number for Customer Service (see Kafka's The Castle) we just keep trying things until something appears to work , first as unrecognized coincidence, then as miracle, and finally as doctrine. There's gotta be a better way.
Remember how he could "get away with shooting someone on 5th Avenue"? That's a thing that he really thinks about, probably a lot. He also knows that he's a coward, so when he says something like that, it means he wants some poor, useless person to do it for him.
Murdering shoplifters is one of the most right wing things I've ever heard.
Also, I worked in retail long enough at Walmart to learn that they have insurance, and auto-report about 25-30% losses every year, and get a giant check for it no questions asked.
I saw this coming back in the 90’s when the Punisher, a longtime villain since Gerry Conway created him in the 70’s, became recognized as a hero. The Decadent Period in comics, I called it then.
Can you imagine how confused Carl must be feeling right now? I am confident, given the current rhetoric from the right, he thought he’d be praised as a hero. This whole criminal charges scenario has to have come at him completely out of left field.
Of course we don't execute people for stealing, but you are being disingenuous when you refer to "gunning down a teenage girl swiping some lipgloss from Walgreens." This is precisely the argument of the right when they say January 6th was just peaceful tourists at the Capitol! We all know he was referring to the mobs who are - in fact, yes - "pillaging" stores across the country. Groups of people breaking windows and rushing into stores en masse and terrifying customers and employees is a way different thing than "stealing a loaf of bread, a tube of Maybelline Great Lash or even a 60-inch plasma screen television" and it takes the power (and sense) out of an otherwise sound and perfectly reasoned argument.
Um....so you're advocating shooting wildly at a moving crowd of people in a chaotic situation in an urban environment? With - as you yourself note - customers and employees in the same space? Just to save some sneakers and Lululemon pants?
definitely I do owe an apology for the very reason you state. I still can't see where I went wrong, I quoted Robyn's statements to make my point but obviously I failed.
If you think shooting people looting a store is a "sound and perfectly reasoned argument" then may I kindly suggest Wonkette is not the place for you? Seriously there is nothing reasonable about shooting people even for looting. You should be ashamed of yourself.
That's not what she's saying. She's saying that there are mobs who attacked the Capitol, and there are mobs who steal from stores. Nowhere does she advocate shooting people in stores.
Trump is, of course, too chicken to confront any kind of a criminal and is shit-scared of guns but he is happy with others racking up felonies because he told them to.
like all the most primitive gods, he wants blood sacrifices, human sacrifices dedicated to his name. This whole civilization thing we have going on scares and confuses and enrages him, because he doesn't understand any of it, and the same goes for his mob of mouthbreathers.
Reminds me of the story in Genesis about Abram/Abraham called to sacrifice his son Isaac as a demonstration of his faith, and the Christian derivative where JHWH requires the sacrifice of his son, Jesus, to remove sins.
Most, maybe all religions pass through a phase of blood sacrifice wherein some living creature, animal or human, is used cruelly to buy the approval of an invisible imaginary being, to ensure a good harvest or plenty of game animals. Ever read The Golden Bough? Ever listened to Traffic's rendition of an ancient harvest song, "John Barleycorn Must Die"? Even the Eucharist is a faint echo of the blood-drenched altars of antiquity. To the best of my knowledge, every culture on Earth has had a spell of doing profoundly disagreeable things in order to affect an agreeable result (e.g. the doctrine of Atonement). Why? It seems gods are just like that.
Let's be clear. Trump "supporters" are the few mega-billionaires who haven't come to their senses. The mouth-breathing klnuckle-draggers in flyover country are "followers."
Oh, no -- it's perfectly acceptable to express a desire that his indictments causes him to start stress-eating Big Macs until he keels over from a heart attack. You just can't go around hoping that someone helps that situation along by, say, someone giving him what is sometimes described as acute lead poisoning.
may I point out one little flaw in this otherwise perfect scenario- when Satan comes to retrieve his instrument on earth, the corporate media will attempt to beatify him and a million little Hitlers will spring forth to carry on the great work, much caressed by the FTNYT, the WaPo and the whole infotainment industry. Let us hope that our joy in his demise will outweigh our disgust at the slobbering, unseemly mourning we will have to observe.
It's simple, really. Every position the right stands on is to exterminate the maximum number of Americans. It doesn't matter the issue -- whether it's healthcare, assault rifles, the environment, working conditions and wages, the pandemic, anything really -- right wingers always choose the side that kills the most Americans.

And again..... Nothing happens.
Again.
And again.
And again......
Nothing.

They probably MAKE money off of shoplifting.
TFG is the master of failing at a trust fall while claiming that more important things were going on.
"The cheering dimwits" is such a great description. Although I think of them more as "bloodthirsty savages."
Never mistake evil for merely stupid
The Cheering Dimwits is a good name for my garage kazoo band. Thanks.
AOT, K
to be fair, he's kind of an expert on the subject of not paying for stuff.
I saw this coming back in the 90’s when the Punisher, a longtime villain since Gerry Conway created him in the 70’s, became recognized as a hero. The Decadent Period in comics, I called it then.
It's really... something... when cops adopt Punisher iconography
There's even a comic where the Punisher confronts cops about that and explains they still have an oath and their hero is Captain America.
Can you imagine how confused Carl must be feeling right now? I am confident, given the current rhetoric from the right, he thought he’d be praised as a hero. This whole criminal charges scenario has to have come at him completely out of left field.
I call that the 'Ashliii Babbitt' effect:
'But he said I would be a hero. This isn't what was supposed to happen....'
Manbaby McDumpsterfire did “pillaging” of people’s money with his fake university. Perhaps he wouldn’t have done that if he knew he would be shot.
I agree. The first persons to be shot shot should be those who want to rob us of our democracy.

No, she's not advocating that. False assumption.
I guess I owe everybody an apology. I was referring to Robyn's argument but apparently it looks like I'm defending trump. Sorry.
You don't owe anybody an apology.
Yes, she does. You write something sloppily enough, and people will 1) take it as gospel truth, and 2) use it to justify their crapola.
lighten up francis.
this is an arby's.
definitely I do owe an apology for the very reason you state. I still can't see where I went wrong, I quoted Robyn's statements to make my point but obviously I failed.
Honey, TFG doesn’t even know what he’s talking about when he’s riffing like this. I’d bet he doesn’t even remember this today.
"Honey"?? wow - I was referring to Robyn's argument. I guess I did not make myself clear since yours is the 2nd comment in this vein. Sorry, sweetie.

I was referring to Robyn's argument, sorry if that was unclear.
Sorry, no it wasn't clear. But I might not be awake yet.

We respect the comment rules about wishing an utterly vile person like Trump would pass away as soon as possible, so we won’t say that.
I'm an optimist. I go to JMG and other websites every morning thinking that *today* might be the day he strokes out.
We want him to be tried by a jury of his peers and sentenced to prison first.
But that might not be before the election.
OK, we want him to lose another election humiliatingly, be tried by a jury of his peers, and be sentenced to prison first.
and a pony
I, on the other hand, hope he will hold it off until late in the primary process.
I'm a nice guy like that.
I hope that he waits until he massively loses the Presidental election and take the party down with him.
And after he dies Jr goes on a coke-filled rant and blames a bunchs of Rs so Trumps haters focus on their allies for a change.
Oh, no -- it's perfectly acceptable to express a desire that his indictments causes him to start stress-eating Big Macs until he keels over from a heart attack. Like when Cousin Garlic was 8, and told his Mom, "I'm not gonna tell you that we bought cherry bombs."
My 4-year-old son does that. I’ll give him a cookie, and say “don’t tell mom.” He will immediately run to mom, “guess what dad gave me!”
may I point out one little flaw in this otherwise perfect scenario- when Satan comes to retrieve his instrument on earth, the corporate media will attempt to beatify him and a million little Hitlers will spring forth to carry on the great work, much caressed by the FTNYT, the WaPo and the whole infotainment industry. HA! Same here!
I log on, go to a news website, wait with anticipation while it loads over my shitty connection, then frantically look for that EXACT HEADLINE!
I will keep doing this until I see it!!!
One of the best headlines of all time:
"NIXON LIES IN COMA"
He was capable of it even then.

They are a true death cult.
the cult of Kali has nothing on these diabolic fucks.
But... pro-life...?
