Back in the day about 1962 jfk jawboned u.s. steel to hold down price increases. I don't know what he had over them but it finally didn't work. rump the dump ain't got nothing in his pocket over the drug trade but a nasty old handkerchief hanging out his ass.

Trump isn't merely incompetent, he's becoming a victim of his own megalomania. He obviously believes he can move heaven and earth with an executive order. Utterly bonkers, but the GOP ass kissers play along. Obviously, if prescription drug prices could be reduced that way, Biden, not to mention Obama, would have done it. Trump is also obviously destroying the good things Biden did, choosing a route that will kick tens of millions of people off Medicaid and forcing seniors to pay huge prices for insulin.

What I'm getting in my inbox these days are petitions to Congress to impeach Trump, which of course would be DOA at least until after the midterms. They're probably going to pass Trump's budget, which includes a big increase in the debt ceiling in order to help cover the asshole's huge tax cuts for the rich. There is at the moment no political will to impeach Trump, but if we allow him to accrue more corruption that won't stand up to the Supreme Court's definition of presidential acts, we'll have a chance to really put the bastard in prison where he belongs.

But Dok, he can't go the weak route of crafting legislation to reduce drug prices! He's the King! He says it, they do it! [eye_roll_emoji] [vomit_emoji]

"... everyone can have prescription drugs at the same price as in Europe, but without the socialism."

Translation: he wants the Europeans to stop buying the drugs at cheaper prices than the US, not that the US would lower their prices.

>There’s just a little problem with the order, which is that presidents don’t actually have the power to make private companies set prices, not even when they dress it up with some herebys.

FAKE NEWS! The Code of Hammurabi says

>215. If a physician operate on a man for a severe wound (or make a severe wound upon a man) with a bronze lancet and save the man's life; or if he open an abscess (in the eye) of a man with a bronze lancet and save that man's eye, he shall receive ten shekels of silver (as his fee).

(Robert Francis Harper's translation).

So clearly, under originalism, the government has the power to set the price of health care. (In the absence of context, it's not actually clear whether Hammurabi intended that to be a universal fixed price for all eye procedures, or whether that was for a specific case where the doctor and patient hadn't agreed on a price until after the procedure was done and they needed a judge to decide on a fair price.)

So Dear Leader is going to add more cost to his bill by eliminating the one thing that lowered Medicare costs (out of spite, no doubt). Genius!

I have two observations. First, I hope that Ameet Sarpatwari is a citizen and always carries his passport and birth certificate (long form, with all the notary seals and ribbons) everywhere he goes and, second, there is no way that Trump is a cunnilinguist.

Again. This was accomplished by the Biden Administration which Sir had to cancel because it was accomplished by the Biden Administration and now has to be redone because it has to be accomplished by the Sir Administration but the Sir Administration can't accomplish it (or 'accompli-shit') because it's the Sir administration.

Thanks for yet another explanation, with appropriate humor, about a worthless "Executive Order" by felonpotus. He thinks by signing dozens a week he is "governing", and he will be applauded "for getting things done". Except only his cult, his handlers, and his enablers praise his "prowess". Thank goodness for quote punctuation marks. No one else believes his EOs are laws, although sadly, his regime enacts them as if they are. Hence the lawsuits against them for being illegal, unconstitutional, and/or a Congressional function only. Deliverance day from this nightmare of a regime will be celebrated as our new Independence Day.

"Trump bragged on his fake Twitter substitute site Sunday that “Prescription Drug and Pharmaceutical prices will be REDUCED, almost immediately, by 30% to 80%.” Yes, both drugs and pharmaceuticals. This guy is not messing around!"

This is just another proof that the Fulvous Fuckwad is a barely functional illiterate. IDK about anyone else, but I have never trusted the numbers that Mooseballs Mussolini tosses around with no prior thought. (This goes back to his halcyon days in the 1980s as a "developer" when I first had any form of contact with the Pumpkin Pestilence through my construction products marketing firm.) Actually he puts no thought into his pronouncements, like Canada is allowing 99% of illicit drugs to cross the border since only 1% of the interdicted drugs come through Canada. And then there's my favorite: the US has been invaded by over 21 million undocumented immigrants thanks to Sleepy Joe, all while ignoring the minor detail that by the 2020 Census count the population of the US would be ~6% undocumented!

"The order directs HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to come up with a plan within 30 days that would determine “most-favored-nation price targets” that would be presented to pharmaceutical companies"

A swell idea, but there's a yuge fly in the ointment: the Sociopathic Marigold Swamp Monster's trade war with China, which produces ~90% of all active ingredients in meds. Personally, at this point in time I'm fairly confident in saying that neither Xi nor the Amber Ardipithecus ramidus consider China as a “most-favored-nation."

Furthermore, with China's overwhelming dominance as the supplier of raw materials needed to produce meds has influenced drug costs here:

> "It’s the most well-known secret on Capitol Hill: China owns the American generic drug supply chain. Basic thyroid or blood pressure medications might finally be put into pill form in an Indian lab and sold under an Indian brand like Cipla. But the organic compounds, or key starting materials, mostly come from China. China is also a key supplier of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API). As a result, the U.S. generic drug market is a wholly owned subsidiary of Chinese and Indian drug makers." https://prosperousamerica.org/china-owns-americas-generic-drug-supply-chain-u-s-china-commission-says/

“The executive order reads more like an aspirational statement than a serious attempt to initiate a policy change[]”

To me, it sounds more like the Mango Malignancy's imperial diktat is a glimmer of an idea of a scheme of an incomplete thought of a concept of a rough draft of a plan for a policy that has no chance of working in the first place.

"Drug manufacturers, rather than seeking to equalize evident price discrimination, agree to other countries’ demands for low prices, and simultaneously fight against the ability for public and private payers in the United States to negotiate the best prices for patients."

* How does the Peach[tree dish] Pustule know there is price discrimination, evident or not?

* How does he know that PhARMA caved to foreign demands for lower pricing since, as a rule, PhARMA doesn't disclose -- in public or private -- wholesale pricing?

* Possibly, with the demise of "Ask your Doctor if [...] is right for you" ads, costs can come down. (If any of my doctors didn't already know what's best to treat my "moderate to severe" arthritis, dermatitis, migraines, Athletes' Foot, Crotch Rot, IBS/Crohn's, allergies... I'm looking for a new doc; especially given the number of luncheon presentations pharmaceutical reps hold.)

* This entire EO, like all of the others coming from the current regime, is nothing more than political theater to make the rubes think that the Sandstone Snowflake has their best interests in mind.

So the EO is utterly toothless. And Anti-Vax McDrugAddict nor his department have the ability to just create regulations, seeing as how agencies can’t just make that stuff up without input from affected parties or some such. So…expecting the pharmaceutical industry to regulate itself, which has historically always worked, right?
