ExxonMobil would like to invite everyone to join us on the next exciting stage in our corporate journey as we pivot to a new frontier: Luxury Lifestyle Bunkers! Why spend your time on this swiftly burning planet with smoke tainting your air and those depressing Poors whining about how they're starving to death and the cannibalistic mutant hordes are eating anyone who hasn't yet died of dehydration or that new superbug that thawed out of what used to be the polar ice caps? With bunkers starting in the low tens of millions, anyone can invest today in a self-contained luxury bunker with its own greenhouse, water filtration system, Picture Windows (take a look "outside" and harken back to the days when there were trees!), and your very own complete Domestic Staff set (all guaranteed fertile so you and future generations will never have to worry about doing your own dishes!) and Savior Trump Shrine...

Sooo, I woke up with a seriously, profusely, 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘭𝘺 runny nose...

"Subclinical to marginal histamine response". just doesn't sound serious enough for how irritating this is, so maybe I'll scour comments sections far and wide for an exotic disorder that fits.

What did we do before the intertubes?

It's the plague.

I've had a snot faucet ever since I caught covid in 2020.

Well, I had a sneezing fit around midnight for the last several nights.

also the valley is in full bloom like I've not seen since my childhood (70's era). Anyhoo, for us sunny peeps in AZ; let's just say you NEED all the kleenex and whatever antihistamine your body and work level require. My husband is in full (Nasocort + whatever short term help) to the x power type of mode. So is my dad who almost NEVER has allergies.

I took Benadryl and enough Indica vapor to inflate the Hindenburg. So, now I don't care if I am sneezing uncontrollably or not. Oh the humanity and stuff.

The actress and stunt woman Susan Backlinie, whose portrayal of a violent death as the first shark attack victim in the opening scene of the blockbuster movie “Jaws” terrified moviegoers, died on Saturday. She was 77.

Ms. Backlinie died at her home in California, her agent, Sean Clark, said on Sunday. He said she had a heart attack...

In an interview with The Post in 2017, Ms. Backlinie recalled Mr. Spielberg telling her, “When your scene is done, I want everyone under the seats with the popcorn and bubble gum.”

She said, “I think we did that.”

If any Americans traveling abroad are counting on Cannes for two weeks of respite from this contentious election year, the festival has a rude reminder in the form of Ali Abbasi’s “The Apprentice.” This political origin story of sorts stars Sebastian Stan as a young Donald J. Trump, Maria Bakalova as his first wife, Ivana, and the “Succession” star Jeremy Strong as Trump’s mentor, the fixer Roy Cohn. Could this be the only film at Cannes this year eligible for both the Palme d’Or and a clapback on Truth Social?

Awakened by something or other in the night, remembered that serendipity was outside. She was going bonkers last night being stuck inside, and I finally let her out because I realized there was no winning that battle. She is 15, street smart, and her restlessness is very powerful sometimes. I checked all the doors, called her, nothing. I went back to bed and realized Máebh was still waiting for her by the door, which meant she was on the other side of it and she was.

Serendipity stalked right past M, ignore her.

I took them downstairs and fed them, thinking it was morning. It was not. And now I am back in bed, looking around for my off switch. Again.

Expand full comment

My cat Tipper (The Cat Who Thinks He's A Dog) has never been outside. Never outside of a cat carrier. He is son of a feral. He made a flying leap towards the door once. Once. I screamed and he flipped back into the room. I've been sick for three days and I've been up all night. There's a pizza box on the stove drawing flies. He was busy today hunting flies.

Expand full comment

Serendipity, as best I can pierce together, was dumped as a very young cat and had to figure out how to survive. She wasn’t doing a very good job of it, but I think she was reluctant to align herself with another unreliable human being. She made her way up and down the road, checking people out. She finally deigned to offer us her services, as winter was coming on.

She came and went for a while, until one winter night, I heard an ungodly screaming on my deck, where she had fled from a feral that was clearly intent on killing her. I open the door, let her in, Stepped out and ran the old guy off. And I think that was the night that she threw her hat over the fence, and followed. Something changed in her, and after that, she was all in.

The younger cats are fine, pretty much, with being indoor cats. And so is she, most of the time. But some nights, she just has to go out.

Is there someone who could give you a hand? You sound like you could use a friend to come over and bring you new pizza boxes.

Coming up for air midway through watching. it’s very difficult to just listen to this.

ETA: this brought back a very old memory of some women that were working together to bring about peace in Northern Ireland. They were being interviewed, and the interviewer was trying to get them to identify with one or the other side of the causes. And they were trying to explain to the interviewer that there were only two sides, the side of peace, and the side of war.

This mother’s, this bereaved wife’s gentle demeanor as she tries to explain the inexplicable. The newscaster almost seems to be showing more emotion and more of a reaction as this woman describes people, innocent civilians, being killed by both sides. And the side of war is united denying that what she saw happened. Fortunately, neither the Israelis nor Hamas kill civilians. So that’s a relief.
