What it all reveals to me is that Democrats didn't really want the documents handed over. Considering they held the House since January 2019, and the Treasury Department since January 2021, the fact that here in late 2022 they have still not been handed over--despite the law being clear as a bell that IRS MUST TURN THEM OVER AT CONGRESS'S REQUEST--I can only assume Democrats simply don't care about this.
I think it can be true that Trump doesn't want something released VERY BADLY (he's fought this for years, knowing that people will assume the worst) but that Democrats don't think it's any big deal. My suspicion is that the returns reveal very embarrassing things for him (lack of income, payoffs to Epstein?) but nothing that Congress really cares to see (if there's tax fraud, IRS already has what they need for it, and doesn't need the House to see it). It's the only explanation for why Trump wants them hidden far more than Democrats want them revealed.
