Actually Nebraska only has 5 votes total, 3 of which are allocated per Congressional District. As a proud bot-dotter (the signs have sprung up like mushrooms) I think there is a good chance of moving the 2nd district's vote to Harris/Walz. Which, of course, is why the Repugs are here to cheat. It's tricky, though, how the Congress race itself will go since Bacon (R incumbent) manages to both seem, rarely, like he's not just a Trumpista zombie and claims to be an old-fashioned reasonable R instead of MAGA, but Biden split the vote the same time the R incumbent won it, so hopefully that will happen, or even better Vargas wins (Bacon is no Liz Cheney or Kinzinger, only the most tepid non-full-obedience to the Dumpster)
Apologies if this has been discussed to death, but has anyone written a good piece about what the presidential campaigns would look like if every state divvied up their electoral votes like Nebraska and Maine currently do? Would the separation between urban and rural districts just become greater, leading us to even wider divisions than we currently have? Or would nationwide campaigning have a general effect of leveling out the playing field?
Exact same thought I had. Previous accommodation was for a deadly virus, that tfg denied for months while his administration bungled response and raided the coffers, now less than 60 days before this election they are changing rules (GA too!) for 'no good' reasons.
Well, that's the elephant in the room we're all ignoring, isn't?
After two months of a dream political run, of Trump/Vance shooting themselves in the foot, saying the quiet (fascist) part out loud... Trump is STILL winning at least two Biden 2020 states.
And it's only going to get worse from here (esp. if Bibi gets that wider Middle East war he's desperately trying to start).
I watched some of the clips of Lindsey talking to the media yesterday. His demeanor was that of a man who has been whipped and beaten. He knows he’s been reduced to being Trump’s errand boy and personal b!tch. If he wasn’t such a piece of shit as a person, I’d feel sorry for him.
Anyone who thinks I'm just going to sit quietly while Republicans put a Donald Trump who lost the popular vote by ten or twenty million votes back in office by pulling some shit with the Electoral College needs to think again. Imagine January 6th with a few million people.
Doing away with the EC would finally dispel the myth that we have RED states and BLUE states. As it is, not only is it a terrible way to elect a leader (only slightly better than watery tarts lyin' around in ponds, distributin' swords), it's extremely divisive. Even in intelligent, enlightened places like teh Wonkette, we tend to lump people together and make statements like "WTF is wrong with people in [insert RED state here]?"
And let me add that shit like this is WHY I've been screaming into the void for Wonkette to start covering goddamn House races. One of the more surprising developments of this Congress is that Democrats are very close to controlling a majority of state House delegations. If we can win a relative handful of key swing districts, we can block the election of Trump in the House, should Republican shenanigans prevent an EC majority. It would also necessarily ensure that Jeffries is the Speaker during this crisis, which would block entire avenues of Republican fuckery.
Guys, Marc Elias and his colleagues will be in there swinging, but the courts are compromised. We cannot count on them to save us. But it will be really hard for MAGA to steal this election if Congress won't help them. And it is still possible to elect a Congress that will defend Democracy, not help kill it.
Personally I very much dislike the idea of electoral vote by Congressional district, since it would allow gerrymandering of the already-grossly-undemocratic electoral college vote. However, this would not be the moment to change it in the states that already have it...

Ta, Dok. Harris-Walz will NOT lose the other swing states, and maybe will pick up a few surprises (looking at you, North Carolina) along the way.
When we fight, we win. We are NOT going back.
The entire American voting system needs to be thrown out wholesale and start again. What a goat fuck.

While not an authority on rat reproduction I am pretty sure that rats don't do it in the missionary position.
Ratty style
If this election is SO CLOSE that ONE EV decides it . . . I'm tempted to just say fuck it all

Perhaps it wasn't worth it in the first place.
There’s no law that can stop this?

So this is the latest version of Mutual of Omaha's "Wild Kingdom"?

Glad to see he learned so goddam much from Georgia

Could we have stories without so much rat erotica?
