You are correct. These are complicated and interconnected problems. In my immediate area, at least, I have noticed that people keep better distance when everybody has a mask on. I think it's something of a visual reminder of "please keep your distance." or "we're taking this seriously." I'm sure that varies wildly from place to place. No, I haven't found any studies implying that masks eliminate the need for distancing. I have been looking, because that would make my life a little less scary. I would love to be able to direct my handbell choir again, but I just don't see how that will be possible. :(
I don't know what it's like where you are, but here's what I have to deal with. At work, I am frequently the only person wearing a mask. People have gotten the memo and no loner enter my office, but it is frustrating. My county has R(t) well over 1, and hundreds of new infections per day, yet our county judge has overruled the governor, and is allowing large gatherings. Restaurants are open at some percentage of nominal capacity. Youth groups and athletics are still meeting. Schools are going to be in person at some percentage of capacity. It is madness. The only hope we have not to be in a total clusterfuck in four weeks is if everybody wears masks and wears them correctly. That will at least get our R(t) to something manageable. Exponential growth will be unforgiving. Everything will shut down again. Universal mask use is not a panacea, but it's one of those things that are so simple and so effective, that it should be a no-brainer.Thank you for this conversation, by the way. It has always been one of the hallmarks of the non-comments that people can posit different arguments without getting heated. That is probably the thing I love most here. :)
A little old lady tried to talk to me, while wearing her mask so that her nose was free. I kept backing away, she kept approaching me until I explained why I didn't want her to come closer, at which point she became Very Offended. It's exhausting to have to deal with their emotions.
As long as we still have our lives, and life is not entirely insupportable, we still have something to lose. But fear not; the Reptilian party is working on that little problem, too. Just give them another couple of years.
You have literally everything to lose.
It also assumes that people hate him; a safe assumption, that.
Lovecraft had an unhealthy mind generally, so not surprising. He did show us that "nameless horrors" are often more effective than descriptive prose.
By ignoring Covid they're already working on it.
All the time.
Which is why Fred was driven to drink.
Yes to Joe and Kamala. No to idiocy and cruelty.

That's unfortunate.
Mebbe he's laying low until he can either declare Trump God/King or get out of dodge.
