Scott Key knew it, and knew that many other people knew it, too. So....
Well, they put it to a vote (don't know who voted) back in the 1930s, when it was pointed out that the US didn't have a national anthem. "The Star Spangled Banner" beat out "America the Beautiful" by one vote.
