Far be it from me to ever stand up for the fucking guy, but I don't think he was talking about replacing workers. I've worked for outfits who wouldn't pay OT. At the eight hour mark, you would be replaced by either another shift or managers would fill in. Badly.
In college, I worked for a restaurant like that. No one was allowed to accumulate more than 37 - 38 hours in a given week. One Saturday, after a week of more work than usual (lot of people called in sick, so I had been *called in* on two or three occasions to cover other shifts) I had just finished my shift and clocked out when two busloads full of people rolled into the parking lot. I had turned to leave when the assistant manager stepped in front of me and told me I had to clock back in. I told him I was already close to 38 hours and he should probably call in someone else; he told me to clock back in and get my ass back out there or don't bother coming back to work next week. This also meant I would have to miss my next class, but I needed the job so I did as I was told.
Fast forward to the next week - Manager called me into his office and proceeded to rip me a new one for "time theft." I was at over 40 hours for last week, which meant I was stealing hours from other employees and taking money meant to pay them. Basically reacting as if I had broken into the restaurant and robbed the safe. I told him about the convo with his assistant manager Saturday when I tried to leave on time, but a voice directly behind me interrupted and called me a liar, claiming I hadn't mentioned one word about the hours I already had. I don't know how long he had been standing there, but he told a completely different story, claiming it was I who insisted I should stay, even though I knew I would be getting too many hours.
I don't know why I didn't punch him in the face. I wanted to do badly I could practically taste it, but I was so gobsmacked by the whole thing it was like I couldn't move.
Long story short, Manager continued to chew me out for another five minutes that felt like an hour, then I started my shift. I was fired at the end of it because I couldn't stop crying.
Later learned from people in my dorm that this was not unusual. This was a college town and lots of employers treated their workers that way because they could get away with it. College kids usually had no idea what their rights were, and even if they did, reporting violations meant you would be blacklisted. I didn't know if that was true or not, but I proceeded on the assumption that it was.
Anytime Mob Boss Donnie the Mad tells you something will work out in a way that is "unbelievable", then don't you believe it. It is balloon juice, snake oil, and intended to rob you with your agreement. Does it even matter if he believes that his every fool notion is genius, and well intentioned, when all he ever comes up with is one scheme after another to sell the rest of us down the river. He is the greediest sonofabitch I've ever even heard of, he is a big, bloated version of the kid who everybody hates in preschool because he can't stand to see another kid enjoying a toy, he has to go over and claim it- "MINE!' he shrieks, and there is no reasoning with him, the only way to deal with him is to kick him out, it is unfair to everyone else to tolerate his insensate covetousness and his aptitude for bullying.
Trump wants to make overtime untaxed so he can avoid paying Social Security and Medicare taxes on part of their pay. Just like his idea for stimulus was to stop collecting those taxes entirely. 7.65% of the pay for many of his employees, landscaping, hotel services and cleaning, restaurant workers, charged on all income under $168,600. So for a worker making only $25,000 a year Trump could pocket almost $2,000 in tax savings. Multiplied by thousands of workers. Going directly into his pocket, not to workers to invest in a 401k or other retirement program. With no mention of how it would affect solvency of the Social Security and Medicare programs.
Anything Trump proposes is dictated in some way by how much money it makes him. Particularly on tax savings, about the only thing he shows an aptitude for besides grifting. Which often are indistinguishable other than one is fleecing the government, the other fleecing the public.
Trump hates paying workers, period. Anyone who is familiar with contractors in New York knows that you always have to fight him in court to get paid the agreed amount. Contractors even started incorporating a “Trump tax” into their bids knowing that he would try to get out of paying the original amount in the contract.
The one thing this actually accomplishes is that the message that trump and couch fucker don't give a rats ass about working people is clearly and repeatedly delivered.
Granted 40% of the population doesn't care, but decent people do.
I've heard that "The cost-of-living is lower in Southern states than in Northern states" - and while there are certainly many areas in which costs are lower, I really wonder how true it is anymore, if there's a significant difference.
It's not about the costs. It means that there is less money to be had. So, that means that the sellers have to factor that in to their calculations. Part of that is just plain due to it being cheaper to rent properties in areas that are economically depressed*. And they will take a smaller profit on sales by not providing a range of items or services you would see elsewhere. That is an economic divide, not a choice by the companies involved. They'd love to have a wealthier population to sell to.
*'rent expense' is always going to be the biggest single cost for a business, it is fixed and unlike other costs can't be avoided or changed easily. Your landlord can just lock you out legally.
lower prices are great, if you can stand the crummy goods available and the sullen, exploited workforce, and if you are just visiting from a Marxist hellhole like California or New York. Then, you have the money to profit by their cheap housing and low wages for service workers, who aren't paid enough to vacation in Palm Beach or Orlando.
I think that's what I meant. I found two listings, one showing the income needed for an individual to "live comfortably" in each state, and the other showing what the median personal income is in each state.
I wish I could post these side-by-side - but it appears to be very few states where the median personal income is sufficient to "live comfortably" in that state. Some are surprising - The median personal income in NY is less than is needed ( I suspect this is because the "weight" of NYC is so much greater than that of the rest of the state ), while next door, Massachusetts has enough personal income to exceed the cost of "living comfortably". West Virginia is touted as the least expensive state to live in, at $78790, but the median income there is only $52,719.
[ The "live comfortably" standard is said to be a budget of 50/30/20 - 50% for "needs", 30% for "wants", and 20% for savings/retirement ]
I suspect if one were to compare the shortfall/excess amount of difference between the two, you might not find that it's easier to live and work in the South than it is in the North
I have an unpaid lunch break, and you can bet your ass that I'm not doing anything but eating and reading and relaxing during that time. The school secretary CALLED MY BOSS today to tell her that I wasn't answering my phone because a kid needed an ID card.
1) He has had half a day and waited until lunch
2) He's done this before
3) Why have none of his FOUR PREVIOUS TEACHERS failed to notice it until now?
That kid's emergency isn't my emergency. Sorry. I'm not being compensated for that time. It the secretary chooses to work through HER unpaid lunch, that's her issue. I wish people wouldn't, though, because they're not being martyrs, they're just messing it up for the rest of us.
Ta, Robyn.
I know what he means by it. He thinks the regulation demanding overtime is a tax, on employers.
That is what he is planning to get rid of.

Seems like this scenario and variations of it are exactly what the Billionaire Boys Club wants for its Brave New World.
No, he meant replacing workers. Hence the "if they asked for it"
When you schedule to avoid paying overtime, they do not ask you to pay them the overtime due.

Trump and the Space Nazi also had a good chuckle about firing striking workers.

What were the typical overtime pay policies for slaves in the antebellum south?

The 40% who support him are not working class, just temporarily financially embarrassed billionaires.
Anybody cheering this policy on, is an imbecile.

MAGA chuds don't support the working class because in their delusional minds, they're all billionaires like Donny.
Asking Canardula about work is like asking a turtle about the albedo of Uranus.
So dumb, he thinks there's a tax on football games that are tied at the end of the 4th quarter.
“We will end all taxes on overtime. You know what that means?”
32 hour work week?
That's what I work and I love it.

Look at you so lazy wanting to actually eat and read during your lunch break! HOW DARE YOU TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT WHICH YOU DESERVE!!!!!
My boss defended me. I can't believe they called her. Just... what the hell?
1) called for a personal issue on his personal time. Doesn't make it a personal issue for you. OR
2) called on company time for personal business. Does his boss know/approve of time theft?
"make the system even more confusing, hurt workers and benefit employers."
And they say the GOP has no concrete policy positions.
