UPDATE: I found the source of the video, and no, it's not a thousand grave sites. It was a protest in response to the murder of a farm couple. Glen and Vida Rafferty, in 2020. Really a horrible case but nothing I can find indicates the Rafferties were targeted because they were white. Rather, some idiot lowlifes wanted to rob their safe, broke into their house, couldn't open the safe, and murdered the couple when they returned home. Horrible crime, but in no conceivable sense "white genocide." Video and links added to story.

You mean Trump cherry-picked an instance of black-on-white violence to make a racist point? I'm SHOCKED!

Zyxomma's avatar

So, a similar crime to the Cutter murder in Kansas that formed the basis for In Cold Blood.

Alicia Brown's avatar

Cutter ... Qatar ... Is this about the jet again??? How dare you???

Thank you for trawling the fever swamps to the source, Dok. I appreciate the effort.

They are replaying the Mau Mau uprising. There were also such attacks in Rhodesia. It’s transference. Take things that happen at some other time and place and claim it’s happening again.

RRJKR's avatar

After some very cursory research you will find that Black farmers are targeted more often than White farmers. The general level of violence in South Africa is pretty atrocious. For the most part it is associated with thievery and not racially motivated.

2Cats2Furious's avatar

The level of income inequality and high unemployment in South Africa are more likely causes than any alleged reverse racism.

Marty Smit's avatar

100:1 odds the perps where white, too.

Doktor Zoom's avatar

Nope, the killers were Black, but they were out for money, which they didn't get. 3 were convicted, sentenced to life in prison, a fourth was murdered before trial

Fender Deluxe's avatar

Those odds are pretty long. I’m gonna go with even money, 1:1 odds.

TootsStansbury 🇺🇦's avatar

Are there MSM outlets on this garbage? I honestly am too tired to look.

Doktor Zoom's avatar

NYT did a pretty thorough debunking of Trump's video lies

2Cats2Furious's avatar

The Guardian seems to have the most accurate coverage of this shitshow, and did report that the video was of a protest and not, and That Fucking Guy seems to believe, of actual mass graves.

WaPo had one line about that aspect. I can’t wait until my subscription is up. Marty Baron must be appalled by what happened to the paper.

What people still don't understand, once Drumpf says something, he will insist on acting as if it is true no matter how many times he is told he is wrong. That not only makes his behavior indistinguishable from literal delusion, it makes it functionally the same.

Sojourner Truth's avatar

Oh, I understand that.

I don't like it, but I understand it. Same types who think Elron Hubbard did no wrong.

satch's avatar

I really need to send The Guardian some money.

2Cats2Furious's avatar

I send them money every month and it makes me feel better. If it weren’t for foreign journalists, we’d be flying blind.

Mean, nasty outlets? Outlets that only say bad things about your favorite president (TRUMP!). Outlets that hate America?

Probably bears way too much resemblance to "journalism" for them.

Sadly, yes. I am not naive enough to imagine that there will be truth about this shouted from the roof tops and successfully rubbed in that Orange Ghoul and his Herr Miller's faces for days on end. We won't hear diddly squat in any meaningful SUSTAINED manner. Not to mention, I'm doubting that any notion of the impropriety of treating a world leader this way will come up with the 'national 'news' orgs.'

Not as far as I can tell. Monument went up in 2004, the road protest was 2020

Marco Rubio - The anti Immigrant anti-democracy IMMIGRANT. The son of immigrants who now spearheads the destruction of the very reason his parents came to this country -for a better life. DEPORT HIM TO CUBA! He has done more damage to this nation's reputation than any so-called "unworthy" visa holder he equates with terrorism. HE IS THE TERRORIST for working to undo the very reason people come to this country, to escape the very conditions he is working to create -a terrorist, nativist, autocracy based on fear and intimidation. Perhaps he will find Communist Cuba more to his liking, economy and politics. DEPORT HIM!

Well, last night I got cussed out by a participant on my volunteer route. He's a regular, and I've always been able to tell that he's unstable, but something happened that he wasn't notified earlier in the day that he was on the list, and he never came out when I got there. I offered to put him on my list for Friday (since he's a regular), and he told me, essentially, to fuck off and get bent. I did not respond because I don't respond to being cussed at, but Friday, as I prepare my list, I'll check with him again to see if he wants me to add him. Maybe he'll have cooled off.

This is my least favorite time of year because the sun rises so early. Not even 6AM and already the sky is starting to lighten up.

Ford accuses law firms of fraudulent overbilling, including a 57-1/2 hour workday

"In a complaint filed in Los Angeles federal court against nine defendants, Ford called the alleged improper billings a "magical mystery tour" of bogus work and time entries, spread across thousands of cases against several automakers so they would go undetected.

The complaint identified "numerous" alleged instances of lawyers billing more than 24 hours in a single day.

Ford said the 57-1/2 hours that Knight partner Amy Morse allegedly billed on November 30, 2016 included 12.9 hours on "requests for admission, opens new tab," where parties ask opponents to admit that facts are true or documents are authentic.

The automaker said another lawyer allegedly billed 29 hours to prepare for, travel to and attend two trials on the same day in Los Angeles and near San Francisco, about 400 miles apart."

“But how could I possibly have had a heart attack? I’m only 32!”

“According to your billable hours, you’re 94.”

Schmannity's avatar

I knew an insurance defense lawyer who remained his firm’s top biller while on vacation thanks to “received and reviewed” billings by his staff on discovery.

Jenvinculosity's avatar

allegedly billed 29 hours to prepare for, travel to and attend two trials on the same day

I mean, I can see that. Preparing for trial takes time, no?

Sojourner Truth's avatar

Just the lawyer cloning alone can take hours.

Schmannity's avatar

Hard to fit 29 hours into 24 or be two places 400 miles apart.

Jenvinculosity's avatar

only takes 5 hours or so to drive 400 miles

Though I did not realize it was for the same 24 hour period. Thought it was like, over a few days there
