Looking at the Oval Office, I'm reminded of something I learned in a design course:
The fewer the decorations (or pieces of art, or filigree), the more impactful the chosen decorations are.
I'm not suggesting the Oval should be minimalist and modern, although that would be EPIC, but Mr. President, you could dial it back. A bit. Like, to Jersey.
Ta, Dok. I am not a federal worker, or a government worker of any stripe. I do work at a FQHC that is partly funded by the fed. I got stiffed for 16 months' back pay because HR handed down a decision that they didn't have to pay it, neener neener. My Union was too busy trying to negotiate the next contract that they couldn't be bothered. I didn't hire a lawyer because an attorney's fees would have been more than what I was owed.
I hope all the federal workers get their back pay, not least because THAT'S THE LAW.
Unfortunately, he has decades of experience in avoiding payment to workers, and he's been allowed to succeed with impunity, so this is just another example of what MAGA cheap-labor capitalists call 'good business sense.'
....this is why, when I build furniture (custom or spec), delivery does not occur before payment in full, and why there's a contract. Period. The rich always try to stiff you if you let them take the thing 'to try out' or 'to see how it fits the space' - they will argue about pricing, ghost you, etc.
Trump is just another in the line of rich Americans who believe that labor and goods should be free to them.
How few seconds, minutes, hours or days are we away from Sir announcing "...the liberal communist socialist fascist plot to impurify and sap our precious bodily fluids!"?
My cousin worked for State and retired. She and her husband are renovating a barn in Massachusetts and are converting it to living quarters and an arts space.
I too have relatives - plural - who've been furloughed
And with Confederate Republicans in power, they're threatening wage theft so those civil servants won't get their back pay ... at the sane time they just spent $20 billion to bail out Argentina under another authoritarian
I'm sure that the censor-in-chief and proven rapist Trump issued a signing statement in 2019 explaining that despite the clear intent of Congress, he always saw the law this way.
It's not like people just came up with a silly argument to try to increase pain and confusion to cover up the incompetence of dear leader?
I feel like one of the repeating, frustrating things about folks who claim to be on the side of democracy is how often they behave like his view is the only one that matters in terms of how the law is to be seen
And it doesn't seem to stop them for a second in rushing headlong toward pushing that view out how literally utterly mad that position is for anyone who wants actual good for the rest of the country
I'm only surprised PAB's flunkies haven't found a way to stiff federal retirees during and after a shutdown, particularly those who are registered Democrats.
While the DEMS stand up for moral, affordable healthcare,

Trump’s out here trying to stiff federal workers like it’s subcontractor day at Mar-a-Lago.
He wants to “run the government like a business,” which apparently means bankrupt it, skip the tab, and blame the waitstaff.
Every time he says “we’ll take care of our people,” you can hear an unpaid worker somewhere mutter, “that’s what he told me in 1997.”

You should know you're in deep when the Pope & MTG have sided against you.

They really want to pull that trigger on full fascism, but they honestly don't know how we'll react, and they're cowards.
They will pull it when they have no other choice.

Sir announces "Five Point Plan" to remain in power forever. Brain, Heart, Liver, Kidneys, Descending Colon disagree.

I'm of the opinion that Chump's never seen the movie. He's too stupid.
Broken minds think alike!
Goddamn he can't help being a piece of shit every single day.
Can I take it that work on the Big Beautiful Ballroom has ceased during the shutdown?
Not as of last night
So a ballroom is "essential work"??? But running the State Department isn't? (my niece works for State and is furloughed)
My cousin worked for State and retired. She and her husband are renovating a barn in Massachusetts and are converting it to living quarters and an arts space.
any contractor who continues to work on that fugly boondoogle is a moran. they are never going to get paid while Orangemandius is alive.
You won't get an argument about that from me

it's "T-ssential"
In a more normal timeline, I'd say "Let SCOTUS decide", but that's not helpful in our current reality.
And ain't that a grand, corrupted shame
