They really have a thing for BB. Busting Bunkers. It's their new favorite fetish. Tonight, Sec. Hegsworth is going to lay down on the floor and spread his legs and let Daddy Trump bust his bunker to show daddy how good he is at TOTALLY OBLITERATING bunkers.
I still think the only way to reliably destroy Fordo is to do an Entebbe or a St. Nazaire on it, but it would most likely be a one-way trip (see: St. Nazaire raid)
Some hard facts, in case they're needed, and most of what Trump says is bullshit.
1) The GBU-57 Massive Ordinance Penetrator does indeed weigh 30,000 lbs. But only 5,000 of that is explosive. The rest is penetrator. It's not really a terribly big bomb and you can't expect it to destroy truly large underground targets through explosive power alone.
2) Which is why it does not have a depth or void-sensing fuze. Instead, it has a fuze that activates when the bomb comes to a complete stop. The idea is to shatter the rock or concrete surrounding the target and destroy via the resulting collapse, above or below the target itself.
3) Collapse is a reliable way to "mission kill" a target by disabling it, but it is a somewhat less reliable way to actually destroy equipment. If heavily reinforced against collapse, voids may leave surviving machinery that can be salvaged and repaired.
4) This latter is especially true if the bomb does not go THROUGH the target and detonate underneath it. The Fordo plant is 250-300 feet under the mountain, beyond the (estimated) maximum penetration depth of 200 ft.
5) Needless to say, actually striking a point target AFTER battering through a couple hundred feet of rock presents some unique challenges, some of which are not well understood. This is another reason why these bombs are designed to bury their targets under tons of rubble rather than destroy them directly.
And finally, in response to Trump's "fake news" whines: The Defense Intelligence Agency runs America's spy satellites. Which is how Bomb Damage Assessment is done in strikes like this. There is no other or better information available. I suspect these bombs inflicted extensive damage to the structures, but not extensive enough to destroy the machinery inside them. It's not like the existence of the GBU-57 or how it works is a big secret; Iran has had over a decade to harden and reinforce these facilities. Pouring more concrete is cheap if you can make space for it.
RE: Leavitt. Not fighter pilots. They fly fighters. Bomber pilots fly bombers. I'm seriously at the point where we should just burn it all down and start over. Maybe I'll just stop paying attention. Sigh....
not being funny, but dropping big bombs on a mountain might leave a crater in it sure, but mountains are there for a reason and it would take more than a few bombs to shift them - didn't these people pay attention in high school? oh, sorry, forgot who I was talking about
So, if it's Mission Accomplished! Completely Obliterated! Nuclear Capabilities Destroyed! We're done here, right? There's no need for anymore intervention in Iran, because we done our job, clocked out, and we're going to put our feet up and have a cold one.
I wonder how many people Trump had to elbow out of the way to get in the front line? And that blue suit? The same that he wore to the Pope's funeral. Doesn't he have one decent black suit? Sorry, my mistake, he never wears black to major events since he wouldn't stand out,
Um....I believe the gorgeous lady in yellow is Queen Maxima of the Netherlands. Meloni appears to be standing two rows up, behind and slightly to the right (in the photo) of Queen Maxima. She is wearing a black suit jacket with a white shirt.
I'll just throw this out there, for a little balance (can't believe I used that word, but anyway): Back in the first Gulf War, I worked on a subsystem of the F-117 stealth fighter. One of the jobs the bird had in that war was taking out the bunker-hangars for whatever aircraft Iraq hadn't already flown to Iran. A couple of pilot dudes from that squadron (plural maybe? I can't remember) were doing a post-war ra-ra show of what a terrific job our favorite aircraft did. They showed pics of the interiors of those hangars, and ppl, they were fucked up: mangled aircraft and support equipment, collapsed walls, etc. But from the air, all the damage assessment intel folks could see was the hole in the roof, so the report was something like "damaged undetermined, hole in roof." The flyboys were pretty salty about that.
This latest bombarama could be like that. Intel analysts refuse to speculate on the extent of damage they can't see, so they just report "hole in roof." So maybe a real setback was achieved, maybe it wasn't. But just waving his tiny hands and yelling "Israel says we fucked 'em up!" doesn't make it so. Bibi has his own optics to keep up.
Did Stormy Daniels ghostwrite Wonkette’s title?
I wonder how many people he had to knock over to be almost front and center in that photo.

Ta, Evan. No notes, as usual.

I keep thinking about the commercials for that Alzheimer’s med: “he gets agitated, says inappropriate things, lashes out, wanders off”
There were 12! And they all went in the same hole like in Top Gun 11!!!!!! That was the operation!
My UNCLE got obliterated by a one ton bomb and survived! He was quite irritable for a few days though.

LOVE the headline! "Trump VERY TOUCHY About His Little Bunker Busters’ Inability To Penetrate"
Evan has a tendency to go straight to the heart of the matter.

So sad about Georgia Meloni's politics, because she rocks the yellow.

Thanks. I was always a big fan of Queen.
Hah!

Operation Midnite Hamberder. Hot and Juicy!
