The simple fact that there were people in our midst who were so incapable of separating reality from fiction that they would become aggressive in the street blew my mind. I fear the internet has destabilized these sorts of people exponentially, and, clearly, there are those that gleefully take advantage of that fact. They should be fucked with a wire brush.
I remember, back during the worst of Covid, reading an account by a nurse whose patient refused to believe she had Covid EVEN AS COVID WAS KILLING HER. It was terrifying to read.
