I was happy that my 94 year old aunt died before Trump was "elected".

She was astounded that anyone would even consider nominating him.

Crom's dark mountain of doom and death, no, it never was a victimless crime, and there will be other victims of this criminal shitbag's lies. Former FBI official Frank Figliuzzi just pronounced grimly that "someone's going to get hurt" because of his stochastic terrorism.

As if we need a former FBI bloke to tell us that.

What these horrible Trumpetoons did to Ms. Moss and Ms. Freeman is execrable and despicable.

While they will doubtless shake their tormentors into bankruptcy for what they did, they can never live in quiet safety and enjoyment again. They will spend the rest of their lives in mortal terror, fearing that the ring of the bell or the jangle of the telephone is someone there to harass them...or worse.

And all they did was volunteer to do their duty as citizens and patriots in legally counting votes in an election.

It's just appalling and sickening.

The look on Shaye's face in this picture just speaks directly to what was done to them. Rudy didn't choose two white people to slander for a reason. I wish Raphael Warnock had been her Senator. Governor Kemp did nothing. Gabe was worried about his family and a friend's family but not about these women. It angers me.

I'm a poll worker. I live in Trumpsylvania (Belle Harbor, Queens) and the people who administer the elections at our sites are mostly Republicans, but our work is convivial and safe. We take it as a given that the worst that may happen to us is a shorter lunch break if the lines get long.

The horror that Ms. Moss and Ms. Freeman are still living through - with enormous dignity - stuns me.

No pit is deep enough for those who painted targets on them.

I have also worked in elections and it is so hard to get people to work a poll nowadays. Workers were older and as they pass on its increasingly difficult to get staffing up to required levels - and that was before you could be harassed out of your house and livelihood for doing a job. I 100% agree on the racial implications here but think about Arizona as well, where the insanity went on for MONTHS and where every time I saw an article about one of the “auditors “ I wanted to weep for these poor people expected to have a dingbat following them around for months. They will have trouble staffing up and when they do, what will happen? Someone will come up with the grand plan of privatization. And you know how great THAT is.

Hat tip to you Enbastet for stepping up to do your civic duty there. It really is becoming hard to find folks like you.

Every adult I know works or is retired. My mom is a poll worker, but anyone younger than retirement age has to contend with their full-time job.

I'm sure it's hard to find poll workers, and I blame the fact that purchasing power is a fraction of what it was two generations ago.

Caitlin Jenner is mind-numbingly stupid. That is all. I peeked at the linked article. “Putting up a flag” is not patriotism. Assuring a functioning democracy on the other hand … Not to mention, as a Republican trans woman the leopards are already eating her face! WTF? I mean, seriously, WT ever loving F?!

>> "Let’s not kid ourselves: Trump and Giuliani wouldn’t have blinked if these women were locked up on BS charges in furtherance of their scheme. Worse has happened in Georgia."<<

I don't know that it's worse than if they have been locked up on election lies, but Bowers v. Hardwick arose out of Georgia where they were sending men to jail for 20 years for having consensual sex in their own private bedrooms. And that was the 1980s.

Honestly, with how badly queer men and trans women of color have been treated by law enforcement there, I wouldn't be surprised if the reason that we haven't found out about a Georgia-based forced confession scheme involving officers torturing random "suspects" that is worse than all the horrible shit we know about from Chicago is ... that they're still doing it, and it's going to take another 30 years to get to the point where it's safe enough for a whistleblower to let us know.
