As part of the executive branch, there is nothing to stop these creeps from doing anything which can be designated as an "official act", even if it is also a "criminal act". The Supreme Court says so, and who can argue with them?
Think I walked a wee bit fast to the metro. Lungs were a touch annoyed and I had to open my coat and remove hat, gloves, and scarf to cool down. Feeling better after a couple stops. Always iffy going from outside cold to a nicely heated metro car. Remember almost passing out Jan 2020 because I was also standing in a packed car (fellow passengers all but shoved me into a seat and helped me get my outer coat off).
I get that! I used to come in on the Metro from Alexandria and in the winter it was so cold, so I'd be all bundled up with wool socks and all, and a wool blanket under my thick coat, and scarf, and it was great until about 2 minutes after I'd get on the metro with everyone else and then I'd get woozy and steamy and by the time we got to my stop I'd be wilted (but then have to bundle up again because freezing!)
Yesterday was BUSY. I had walk ins (where you deal with anyone who has anything before the court, so you have to be ready for anything--plus it's not in person, so you have to juggle folks coming in at different times.) I was also covering another judge's dockets, so I had to keep jumping over to his googlemeets. And then the internet went out, so I couldn't make my normal notes in our system AND all the hearings had to be held over the speaker phone, which was not ideal.
Hope it's fixed.
Anyway, morning, all (or whatever time it is there). Hope it's a good one.
DEI! DEI! Or maybe the historical information used to train the AI models actually shows that mediocre Anglo-Saxon named men are exactly that: mediocre. Personal experience says that white men are *not* stupider, they're lazier. Women software engineers are equally smart and work harder.
So my old car has an issue: the key got warped and it has trouble turning over the engine, and when I went to get a new key, found out they do not keep key codes for cars that old, so the best they could do is just copy the existing key, which means I still have trouble turning over the engine.
I did look it up, and I can get the lock whatever thingy re-keyed and what not, but it would be about a grand all in for parts, labor and new key (wondering if I can get them to do one without the chip "anti theft" thing so I can just get keys cheaply made at ACE? Would be nice)
BUT we're all the life cycle of the 14 year old car where I wonder if it is even worth all that bother, or if it would be better to trade it in now while trade ins are still worth something.
Hoping to keep it limping along til January before deciding, but idk, yesterday it took about 5-10 minutes of insert key-turn-retract key-insert key-turn-retract key et al to even get her going.
It really depends. The car I replaced in May was from ‘98 and only died due to a prior inspection missing a crack that leaked out the engine coolant. Whole engine block had to go, but one if the mechanics at the place I was going to let scrap it decided paying four thousand for that was better than seven for another used he was looking at so I ended up letting him have it for covering the diagnostic that told me is was dead. Keep in mind the car itself was not worth four thousand anymore, it’s just used car prices are stupid high right now.
That is the thing tho. The key I would be snapping is worn, which is the problem. So copying the worn key will just continue the issue.
I'd have to get someone to make a mold or something to get a new key cut entirely, and idk if they can do that, the internet seems to suggest I need to have the entire thing re-keyed
Was actually pondering an EV. Until the breaks and all are cancelled by the incoming assholes that is, which is why I am only giving myself til January.
Was talking to the peeps at the dealer while they were making my key, and mentioned how I did not have a hook up for an EV tho, and he was all...we will come and GIVE you one
Want a sneak peek? Drive to Canada where it is currently $6/gallon in the West where we produce all the oil. Can't imagine how much more it is on the coast or out east.
I've never not owned a ford. Not really by design, hubby had a WV and what not, just by accident. But, they all lasted me a very long time, and you know how tight fisted I am. The first was my rent's 89 vic, that had seen 5 teenagers and 6 collisions (including a total, but it was a new car, so worth more than the 18k in repairs, so the insurance company had her repaired). Drove that until it near died well into the Aughts. Then briefly had a lincoln but it had too many bells and whistles that were going, so dumped that for an old merc and drove that for a good ten years.
This present one is an 11 (we got it used in 15) and I think aside from the routine oil changes/ breaks, there has only been one repair on it- the ball thingy things in the wheels needed to be redone last year or the year before, was about 1300.
I know car guys laugh, but I have always found Fords to be plain, dependable, and I never feel bad about beating the shit out of them, and boy, do I beat the shit out of a car. It is a tool for me, not a status symbol.
Course, if I could afford a subaru, I would totes buy one of those
I wasn't responding to the Ford thing, so much as you responding to "If everything else is good" with a list of complaints, which tells me you're tired of your car.

I’ll admit love my used ‘23 Chevy Bolt. Not as big a rebate as I could have gotten due to buying in ME for use in VA but still an ok rebate.
Please get a new car. Don’t be like me. At the end, I was shelling out $1000 a month
Edit: fully expecting gas prices to be about 4-5 bucks per gallon in about a year
Want a sneak peek? Drive to Canada where it is currently $6/gallon in the West where we produce all the oil. Can't imagine how much more it is on the coast or out east.
A grand is nothing compared to car prices these days. If everything else is in good condition, unless you really want a new car, I'd just re-key it.
well, she is old, and leaks a few things, and the engine is on the cusp of turning 200k and in a Ford, we all know what that means....

Sadly, Subarus are now less reliable than Fords, due to engine issues.
I wasn't responding to the Ford thing, so much as you responding to "If everything else is good" with a list of complaints, which tells me you're tired of your car.
oh no, I am not tired of her!
I love my nimble little tank. Just weighing the worth of her as a trade in now, before the engine blows up
I can hot wire that for you.
