Not the best analogy. Their sole purpose is pain relief, not killing things/people. And those of us with chronic pain, for whom not much else works, are sorta being made to feel like criminals when we get our prescriptions filled.

Missed the snark. 'Scuse me.

After lotsa executions, Singapore has very little problem with drugs. They have very little crime in general. But you can't point to Singapore and compare it to hardly any other country. Singapore is essentially a single island (all but the main one are very small), 100% urban, with only 3 realistic access points - two bridges connecting to Malaysia and the airport. They also have approximately half the population and half the area of London and at least double the number of cameras. It is extremely hard for criminals to escape detection in Singapore. Amazingly for a semi-totalitarian state, they also have very little government corruption. I haven't figured out how they accomplished that in what is essentially a one-party state.

From what I've been reading lately, the consensus seems to be that we need to change how we look at addiction if we really want to solve the problem. Many view it as a moral failing or weakness on the addict's part, rather than viewing it as a medical issue. Hence the "let 'em die" mentality. Of course, the War on Drugs is far too profitable for those who addicted to money to sober up.

'Without leaving people in pain stranded?' I guess all these other countries just have people writhing in the streets in pain? Like some Dante painting? Other countries get by with fractions of the opiods we do. Offhandedly including this argument is irresponsible and part of why it's so hard to get this ball rolling. Americans need to understand that our consumption of these drugs is not normal.

So he’s going to give the CEOs of the pharmaceutical corporations the death penalty?
