I gotta say that I don't know a ton of vets who would be comfortable with these images/ let alone the reality. Leave the battle gear for battles. The branches of the military have entire sections, manuals, dress uniforms dedicated to parade and Trump chose to make it look like the capital was under attack.

I was about as fond of parade-drill as any soldier of my (or any) generation, but those soldiers looked damned sloppy. At 63 I can still do it, it's not that complex a set of skills. Poor planning and execution is my bet, let down by command.

Can wonkette host an online "What's your sign?" event so we can all upload and share our favorite No Kings posters???

There were two signs at my local protest that I particularly liked. One was a 3"x3" piece of cardboard at the end of a yardstick that said "A Tiny Sign For A Tiny Man" with a couple of little hands sketched down at the bottom. The other was pretty goddamn blunt: "Put A Rapist In Office, Expect To Get Fucked".

My favorite was one was in LA that said "If Kamala were president we'd be at brunch right now" with a pic of an alcoholic beverage.

Yeah, for the record, after watching a few minutes, this was damn dismal looking on the TV also. I expect the ratings for "watched it all the way through" are slim to none. Not that our short, fat, weak president will let those numbers be made public.

Noticed that ABC News covered this stupidity with tight shots and lots of Trump face.

Not just bending a knee.

On their knees.

"Trump's face" was the most humiliating thing on display. He looked like he was passing a watermelon.

How does donOLD's administration explain just how is it money is spent on a parade honoring a draft dodger when there are veterans out there who need food, healthcare and housing that they can't afford?

"'Splainin'? We don't need no stinkin' 'splainin'!"

we flew my grandson out of DC, where he is interning, for his brother's high school graduation this past weekend. in retrospect, this was a damn fine idea.

Glad to see that the American flag shirt is unisex - and that it looks crappy on all sexes and genders.

At least from what I can tell.

Mark Linimon's avatar

The American flag is not supposed to be worn as clothing.

skinnercitycyclist's avatar

Right, but the flag shirts are not flags "worn as clothing." As Abbie Hoffman explained decades ago, they are shirts with a US-flag motif. I think they are fashion atrocities, but not contra the Flag Code.

I happened to see people wearing actual flags as capes at my local "No Kings," THAT is wrong. Not illegal, just wrong.

While no doubt some of the service members are Trump supporters and/or like to be in front of a crowd, I got the sense that most of them, even if the DO support Trump, didn't want to be there and just wanted to get it over with.

I wonder how many of them had planned events for the weekend back at home, only to have to scrap them because Trump was ordering them to come march in front of him so he could feel important.

Just seemed like the vast majority of people who weren't protesters were there because they were literally required to be.

I wonder if any of them had children and had to miss out on Father's Day because of the ego in chief.

You say "couldn't walk in cadence" I say, "refused to walk in cadence." They clearly didn't want to be there, and their superiors didn't want them to be there. Malicious compliance and also gross incompetence from top leadership (as some didn't know they were marching until that week).

skinnercitycyclist's avatar

"Malicious compliance..."

Almost certainly NOT. If those soldiers had been ordered to walk in cadence, they would have done so, or gotten the reaming of their lives from command.

"... and also gross incompetence from top leadership..."

There ya go. For some reason they were ordered to saunter instead of march. I can tell you from my own Army experience, whenever we went somewhere "in formation," we did it keeping step with someone calling the cadence. ALWAYS.

rlcornelius's avatar

My Army veteran friend said, "Those were brown berets. They KNOW how to march. They were absolutely breaking step on purpose."

The flag shirt couple with the bug eyed glasses and Porta potties in the background is masterful composition.

Not so much "American Gothic" as "American Grotesque."

What was the filth all over the front of their shirts? Truly classy and full of respect for the US flag.

skinnercitycyclist's avatar

Looks like part of the pattern, "distressed [as in battle] flag" is a common graphic with these types.

There was a parade or something?

Anyway...

Birthday 79 completed means Sir is officially in Sir's 80th year. Sir gonna need more bags!

Next year he'll synch it up with the America250 baloney everyone's so embarrassed about.

Hank Napkin's avatar

I guess if it’s before the midterms Sir might have a chance. It all really depends on the severity of the stroke Sir is about to have.

Please, I can't take any more false hope right now!

Oooops! I'm not cleared to leak that information! Please ignore it!

"Leak"? Aaaaaaand we're back to the bag.
