I've always thought it was the lamest of the lame. And of course, you're right about the burnt edges. Even my MIL thinks it's stupid and it was her husband that did it. Now he's her ex.

Yeah. Because he got his, "too stupid to follow the laws" when we let him off the hook for Russia. If he's STILL to stupid to follow the law or get a staff who can help him follow the fucking law he needs to be impeached or otherwise removed.

Or the Trump team learned something from Bannon. Or Bannon continues to be involved.

One of the differences in the way the campaign is managing disinformation this time around has been a reliance on fringe-right outlets (I'm lumping in FOX News there) to both generate and amplify the disinfo. Bannon's shtick was to get the disinfo placed in a legitimate outlet and then amplify with owned and allied right-wing channels. The Trump team hasn't seemed to have been as good at playing the Bannon gambit this cycle, and getting Zelensky on Fareed Zakaria's show would have been a significant "improvement" in the operation.

I wondered when he won whether Zelensky had been helped by Putin. Not that he was in cahoots with Putin, but that Putin embraced an opportunity to push somebody with no practical experience into the position. The Five Star movement in Italy is much the same. I also have wondered whether AOC got similar help, with the expectation that she would be an incompetent chaos agent instead of the skilled and smart future leader she turned out to be.
