I'm glad to see President Biden doing something to stop the squandering of welfare money on phony baloney projects. But the original sin was the Block Grant program which gave states money with few strings attached, It was too much like a slush fund for personal use.

Glad this crap is getting fixed. There should be explicit rules about funding sports facilities, like it HAS to be passed in a November election using a dedicated tax.

I think it would actually be ok to fund foster parent programs, as there is such a need.

And also yas Team Biden.

Nothing wrong with funding foster parent programs or sportsball stadiums, just get the funding elsewhere.

Those are two very different things. Funding foster parent programs (if done right, of course) would be a huge benefit for the most vulnerable kids in any state. You may have read recently about the BS my own state of Oregon has been doing in that area. Maybe not TANF, but there should be some kind of national leadership on this.

That's nice, but with this source of funding you would be fostering these kids instead of feeding and housing them. you can't foster dead kids, the foster parents don't like it.

But if poor, needy families get the assistance they need to thrive, what will happen to the prison pipeline our corporations depend on so much?

No worries, there are lots of crooked politicians who deserve to go to prison. The private prison industry will do just fine.

" counting charitable giving by private organizations, such as churches and food banks, as “state” spending on welfare..."

This shocked when we were putting together our kids' college finances--every single dime we got from an outside source (like our "bank account"), the college deducted from the aid they were willing to give. They would just decide how much they thought your family could afford and nothing you could do could reduce that. (My daughter finally got around this by emancipating herself so they couldn't count my income)

stg when my daughter did that my immediate thought was oh thank god I'll never have to deal with FAFSA myself again. But not before most of the college savings we had scraped together for literally decades was used for her older brother because of that fucking system. I'll never really get over how guilty I felt.

That Brett Favre crap really steamed my ass! I've been poor for much of my life, almost always eligible for food stamps... But as poor as I've been, I've never qualified for tanf. That means he ripped off poor people with children who are abominably poor. Destitute. Living worse than hand to mouth. He should be publicly shamed on a MUCH grander scale than he already has been. He should never be able to set foot in public without the boos and hissing from others. But he played sportsball, so that'll never happen. 🤬 This country sometimes.

Voters in MS knew about the theft of funds but they re-elected Tater because they like the idea of taking money from the poors and using it to buy a volleyball facility for Brett Favre's daughter, give some to former pro wrestlers, etc. They endorse that shit.
