Firstly, what does sentiment have to do with it? There's just no room for sentiment, consumer or otherwise.

Secondly, if Wal-Mart really means “We need to figure out how to operate in this environment.”, then they need to refine their business model and get into the meth business. It's a natural fit - also selling ugly fat sex to other ugly fats will certainly add to the bottom line, and taking children, especially babies, in trade for later resale is sure to bump up the margins.

Growing up in NC I often saw parents put iced tea in baby bottles. Even cheaper.

Donuts are plentiful. Flat screen LED televisions have never been cheaper. Jennifer Anniston is back on TV. There is a new season of Survivor. Political involvement and enthusiasm among the dull-witted are dramatically increased. Confederate pride is back. Creationism is no longer confined to the uneducated or fundamentalist.

Liz, you just cheered me up, and that is no easy task. You reminded me of many trips to Angel's bodega in Morningside Heights 30 years ago. God bless the Real America, with ethno-Americans aplenty and a melting pot that isn't mostly high fructose corn syrup and partially hydrogenated palm oil.
