I drove a taxi up until 4 1/2 years ago when the State of California destroyed the company I worked with as a test case on this very issue. I still drive a few private clientele, mostly old & invalid.
I would never work for (or use) Uber of Lyft & have felt that since the beginning.
If Uber allowed drivers to set their own rates, they might be able to get away with their arguments that they are providing a service to drivers and not riders.
They have diversity. Not so great on Blacks. It's foreigners, but not Central American. Try Asia Minor, North Africa, various FSR 'stans. I mean c'mon: do a bit of research. Or at least some googling.
General strike? I've never contracted with Uber or Lyft, nor have I used Uber Eats. Doordash, or any of the others. If I can't get where I'm going on time using a subway or bus, I hail a cab. I pick up my own food. COVID-19 hasn't changed that for me.
Back when I was job hunting, all the job sites were full of jobs for Uber drivers. I've never had a drivers license. It was bullshit.

I have seen a few musicians that I respect take an Uber or Lyft but was in no way was I to tell them not to do it. Very disappointing.
