I would like to see the two Emoluments Clause cases revived too! In 2021, the Supreme Court dismissed as moot cases brought by: (1) CREW and (2) Maryland and DC regarding the Trump Hotel and foreign payments. Am I CRAZY to think the Emoluments Clause still couldn't be used to take a bunch of Trump's ill-gotten money? I'm sure TruthSocial and his crypto and other schemes have netted Trump a LOT from foreigners.... No?

MY GOD. Amnesty. She has suffered enough.

The Carroll judgment is secured by a supersedeas bond. So she's got recourse against the bonded entities even when Trump doesn't pay. Getting it back from Trump is their problem, not hers.

In an informal way, we've long known that our justice system has at least two tiers: one of them is for the rich and powerful. But with the rise of Trump and his cronies, and most recently with that crazy SCOTUS ruling about immunity, it has been codified into law and Constitutional interpretation. Truly remarkable, and not in a good way.

We had some hope with Epstein and Weinstein but that hope was dashed by SCOTUS.

Our Governator, J. B. Pritzker, who seems to be one of the good billionaires (I haven't researched for possible former criming against us proles) said if Trump comes for the people of Illinois, Trump would have to come THROUGH him, and if you've seen Pritzker, I think he'd win that fight over Donold. Not fat shaming, I'm a big lady.

Down my way, for historical reasons, elected officials cannot be tried or arrested during their tenure in office. During the last election, at least one senate candidate campaigned by video while outside the jurisdiction of the Mexican courts. I can understand the danger of "lawfare" being used otherwise, though the impeachment process (which only strips the office-holder of immunity) is complicated and there have been proposals to simplify it: even for the President (and favored by AMLO during his own tenure).

I'm really hopeful that the rule of law can resist, perhaps even defeat, the criminals that will be in charge of what will be called "government". But with the SCOTUS packed with more criminals, I'm not especially optimistic.

I have many, many thoughts but, mostly, I want Trump to be miserable. The only reason he is free is that the oligarchs who own him want their money back, and he won't be able to deliver on his "promises" to MAGA. Heck, he probably won't properly fund FEMA (and we all know there's another hurricane coming from climate change). He's losing his mind - and knows it. There's going to be a lot of cooks in the kitchen trying to wrest power from him. Eventually, he will shit himself in public.

I'm the meantime, please look at the tremendous advances we've made. Seriously!! Twenty years ago, the thought that a Black Asian woman could be the presidential nominee of a major political party would've been unthinkable. Then, there are the millions of women, like myself, who own property and have credit cards in our names. We live in diverse neighborhoods. We have awesome men in our lives who love us and support us. When I was a little kid in 1970, there were no single women like me; now, there's a shit load.

If you can, do NOT invest in MAGA. Simply do not give your money to those fuckers. Invest in Wonkette! Buy gifts from all the wonderful businesses that are profiled here each Christmas. Invest in your towns. Volunteer for things you're passionate about. Be joyful, but not delusional. Love, LT

Wonkette writing has the cursed ability o both make me feel awful and laugh out loud simultaneously…

on a related note, d’you think Judge Chutkan can sentence DJT to four years ‘supervised custody’ or some such, where he would be required to wear a monitoring anklet for his entire term? Wouldn’t materially affect him in any way, but we would all know he’s wearing that fucking anklet EVERY DAY.

That's a fine idea. Maybe it could be made to beep, too, whenever he strays from reason and common decency. Beep beep beep beep beep beep .... It would be beeping continually for the duration of his sentence.

I love this top picture so much! I have known so many cat and dog pairings, and pairs who really, really loved each other, but at some point the cat always gave the dog a look like "You are a total goof wad and you smell weird" and Dog's like "I'm happy to be here!"
