I know it isn't bras, but a lot of people in the States order yarn from overseas companies. The selection over here is great, the prices are great, and even shipping costs have been pretty reasonable (from what I've heard from American fellow crafters). This is from a place called Wool Warehouse, based in the UK. I've read that other UK companies, such as LoveCrafts, and Hobbii in Denmark are following suit. Places like Michael's and WalMart import a lot fo craft supplies from overseas so crafters will see either ridiculous prices or empty shelves. For some people, this is the one joy they have in life and now this is being taken away as well.

That lede photo makes me sad because it reminds me there was a time when America built great cars and quality bras that were colorful, had stylish points and massive headlights. They did exactly what they were designed to do. Now it's all Tesla and Victoria's Secret, and the damn things are useless.

"This theory was largely derived from the fact that some conservative men are still very, very mad about the fact that female games journalists criticized the portrayal of women in video games 10 years ago."

More than ten years ago. Anita Sarkeesian started Feminist Frequency in 2009, and she was far from the first.

All these pudgy, midlife-crisis fascists were pudgy, teenaged boys loudly whining about girls rubbing their cooties all over their He-Man Video Game treehouse while getting ripped off by skeevy PUA "dating coaches" back then. And they never outgrew any of it, least of all their deep-set entitlement to real-life anime porn at their 24/7 beck and call.

GG?

I thought the scale stopped at DD

In the US most stores only stock to a DDD, which is why this is a problem. Most American bra shops inflate the band measurement of everyone who needs something larger than that so they can get away with only making and stocking a smaller number of sizes. Bras, especially bras for larger breasted people, are *supposed* to carry most of the weight on the ribs, not the shoulders, but a bra that’s been deliberately mis-sized to make people fit into a DDD when they’re much larger does the opposite.

So anyone who’s larger than that but not a large band size is stuck wearing brutally painful bras or ordering their bras from Europe.

A correctly fitted DD is not usually a particularly large size.

As a (former??????) dedicated Bravissimo customer (wear a 30FF or a 30G) I can concur, not a single American bra company makes my size. NOT A SINGLE ONE. I suppose I'm lucky my last Bravissimo order should hold (pun intended) me for a bit.

To your point about how important getting fitted locally is (but ignoring the cost factor), Atlanta and LA have https://www.jenettebras.com, which I hear great things about.

The best part is that Jenette is Jenette Goldstein, aka Private Vasquez from ALIENS!

Ta, Robyn. I'm a less unusual 32C and have difficulty finding anything I'd consent to putting on my body unless I'm willing to spend. And that's now.

Ouch. Quite literally.

Before my breast reduction a couple years back this would have easily forced me to, I dunno, sell my car so I could afford an annual European vacation or something. Either that or find someone who could make them for me custom, which I suspect would cost several hundred dollars a piece.

This is a disability need, not a luxury.

A lot Trump and his MAGA male creeps care if women can't get a comfortable, functional bra. Jesus, they don't care if women (and young girls) are raped, pressured into marriage with bastards who raped them, or die of sepsis after an ectopic pregnancy. And their mealy-mouthed superstitious pastors would just raise their eyes to Heaven and intone, "The curse of Eve. It's in the Bible. Take it up with God."

Even outside the US... I was shopping on line for small bookbag to take with me to the local cafe (along with money, reading glasses, phone, doggie biscuits) ... everything listed on line in my go to Latin American on-line cheap stuff site (Mercado Libre) popped up a humongous "tariff fee" when I started to make the order that tripled the price.

I ended up ordering something called a "Bible bag" ... sans Bible... out of Brazil.

Opposite issue here ; giant rib cage and scrawny boobs. Ideally I need a 38 or 40 AA. Pepper bras are better than most, but do any of you have other suggestions?

Does anyone know a decent place to buy bras online that isn't a fortune? I know that you pay for what you get, but I can't afford like $90/bra when I'll need more than one of them...

A little background: I haven't had a proper-fitted bra in probably close to a decade now. I mostly just get by with just wearing a cheap ass sports bra around the house & wearing some badly fitting bras that I wound up keeping because online returns can be a hassle sometimes. I had to stop wearing underwire bras because they started subluxating my ribs if I moved the wrong way, which doesn't feel very good. It takes sooooo much energy to go all the way to a store and try on bras, if they even wind up having something close to my size in stock. It's energy I don't have; I have some medical issues & some of them involve lots of fatigue. I tried ordering online from a few different places, but dealing with the inevitable returns became an issue & I wound up keeping bras I shouldn't have. And now I wear those bras out of necessity. So any help pointing me in the direction of a decent bra place that I can order from online (that is obviously NOT VS!) would be greatly appreciated! 😊

I buy clearance from Bare Necessities online for my size. Returns are pretty easy but clearance are no returns, they run $20-$50 though so I buy enough to match my usual 1 bra price and after one fits, all the rest are gravy. This is why I have every ugly print bra or poor lace/band color match ever made. But it really helps me figure out the brands and styles that I like best and then I can decide to shell out for one I know I won’t have to return. And unfitting, unworn spares go to the thrift shop that serves the women’s shelter. I also keep a few bra extenders on hand to deal with ones where the band is too tight at the beginning but will become loose before I am willing to buy another.

A good, supportive bra really does make my life better. If it’s possible to save up money and energy for dealing with returns, I think it’s worth it. But the local independent foundations store is maybe the best place to get fitted with no judgement: those ladies can just look at you and name the right size. And they have lots of no-underwire because they serve people post-mastectomy.

For large cup/small band? No, I’ve never seen them cheeper than that, even several years ago. The last time I bought one (pre-breast reduction) was 2019, and at that point they ranged from $90-120. I tended to only own two at a time, and when the elastic started to stretch too much or my band size fluctuated I’d baste half of the band to stabilize the elastic down and get more use out of it.

If you’re “small” enough to fit the Wacoal size range (I think they go up to a G? Maybe a GG?) They’re a little cheeper than other large cup/small band bras, and are nice. In my 20’s when I fit their range I usually bought them at Macy’s. But if you’re bigger than that I think there simply aren’t more affordable options.

Another option is that If you know what works for you and what your ABTF size is you can sometimes get specialty bras second hand.
