He isn't even in office yet, and the Chaos Monster is already tearing everything down.

Plug the original bipartisan bill back in, but add a repeal of the debt limit. Call it the TrumpMusk Unlimited Spending Cap, so Poppy can do a victory lap on his tricycle around DC. Musk is simply a bored billionaire with no ability to find joy in anything. He’d let thousands of federal employees get furloughed during the holidays.

History teaches us that the office of Doge is highly unpopular and takes centuries to dig the canker out.

President Gumblefop will still need to raise the debt limit when he becomes president in the year 2480. Maybe xe will raise it to 50 centillion dollars so it can last until the heat death of the universe.

Better to have it and not need it....

A government shutdown after the election would be an excellent harbinger for the imbeciles who voted for him, a lot of whom have federal jobs. Get ready, folks, we're just getting started. Let's shut it down until 1/20 and see how fun that is.

All they have to do is sell some stock to take them through the new year.

Let's shut it down until 1/20/2029 just to be sure : )

Oligarchy, yes. A bunch of trees can be conceptualized as a forest.

I would bet a kajillion dollars that Musk is being investigated for something and he thinks the shutdown would stop that.

"We especially like the debt limit idea — it’s a stupid leftover from WWI — yes really! — that has never once limited spending in over a century, so getting rid of it altogether would remove a constant pain in the ass that periodically threatens the economy whenever a Democrat is president."

While I think getting rid of the debt ceiling is the only concession that the Democrats should agree to, I think their is no reason to do so now. The reason that, out of nowhere, the proven rapist and hater of our troops senile Ol' Man Trump wants it dealt with now is so he doesn't have to put up with the blowback when his Tax Cuts for Billionaires! (TM) rolls out and immediately balloons the debt as only Trump can do.

Let senile Ol' Man Trump have to fight for it and justify it to his minions, while the Democrats get everything they can in trade. Let all of this be on his watch. Trump will blame everything bad on President Biden while claiming credit for all the good President Biden did. Let's make it clear what he is responsible for.
