I hate what has happened to twitter. There was no equal for disaster updates and the idiotic algorithms at fb need to be paused so we can see the updates of our LA peeps without a bunch of fake clutter.
Empty Greene sez Gavin Newsom is "criminally liable" for the LA fires. Does this open the door to charges for Sir's COVID mass murder of U.S. Citizens? Yes. Yes indeed, it does!
Sounds like there ought to be altitude restrictions for building home where the water pressure would prove to be inadequate. And maybe some kind of fire breaks to prevent fires from getting too large. Of course that would dispossess a lot of rich people, but I always say, "fuck the rich."
Eaton Canyon is where Mr Moonshine and I hiked on our first date.
It’s where we could hike with the babies because it’s pretty flat for a lot of the trail so the tiny boss could sit and eat sand if he didn’t want to waddle.
One bestie has evacuated from Altadena, and her sister’s home in the Palisades is probably gone. The last image from the security camera showed flames on the property. Another bestie who lives near Boulder was sharing the post-fire advice she learned after her town burnt up 3 years ago, including the home of another old friend.
Julius Caesar was bankrolled by Crassus, the wealthiest Roman at the time, whose business was firefighting. If your building was on fire, his fire wagons would roll up and offer you a choice: they would buy the property from you at a deep discount and put out the fire, or they would let the building burn to the ground. Maybe the wealthy real estate guy would appreciate that kind of private fire company?
Once the heat hits a certain level in a fire front, it creates its own weather, specifically the type that will further propagate fire. we've seen it down here time and again - and if the area is already in drought, the fuel load increases almost exponentially as the hot dry wind leaches moisture out of otherwise 'green' plants, adding them to the fuel load.
If you're in the area, wear cotton clothes with long legs and sleeves, a natural fibre scarf to act as head cover/mask if you don't have a suitable hat, and eye protection from embers/ash (sun glasses will do in a pinch)
if you are at home when the front hits, wet towels down for coverage and smoke filtration, lay down in the middle of the house and WAIT FOR THE FIRE TO PASS - your house will burn, but not so quick you can't get out once the active fire front goes past - it will be scary as hell but you have better chance to survive inside your home than in a car or the open.
these are all hard lessons we've learnt down here - i'm really hoping none of you ever have to endure them
Yeah, and do not for any reason wear polyester or nylon while near fire. You will be permanently disfigured by the plastic burning into your skin if a flame touches your plastic clothing. In case of fire it is safer to be naked than to wear polyester.
No, Nicolle, you cannot use your new bff Julie for content while her brother wails in despair at the sight of his gutted home…and on the scene reporter, Steve, mercifully knew better, JFC.
Maybe instead of making fun of people burning alive in LA President-Elect Sir could get on the SirPhone and get that big Canada Water Faucet that supplies LA with water to turn on!!!!!!
Several PA letter carriers were in LA back in the 70s for a conference. We were invited to the new (Topanga Canyon) home of one guy’s nephew for dinner. He called a few hours before our arrival to say he’d meet us in town instead, as a mudslide had just plowed through his dining room. Seems like CA plates should carry the motto ‘It’s Always Something’.
But what a wonder, Topanga Canyon. I drove down it not long ago for the first time in years, and it seemed as magical as ever.
Carolyn See's novel "Golden Days" gives a great depiction of it, as well as being the only novel I know that looks on the sunny side of nuclear apocalypse.
A lot of these homes had swimming pools. Maybe spend a few hundred $ and a press of button pumps water over house?
I'd say it's way too soon to be politicizing this tragedy.

I hope all the CA Wonketteers are safe and away from the flames. I also hope they check in and mark themselves safe.
Lucky this happened before That Thing takes office.
It (or something very like it) will happen again--possibly several times--after that thing takes office. And it will be orders of magnitude worse.
I'm safe in Hollywood, although it looked dicey for a minute.
Expect Show Hearings and Show Trials. GOP Congress all set to charge Newsom for the fires.
The fire departments have done a heroic job, considering they were up against four simultaneous fire hurricanes.
Far from over I'm afraid...

Fuck, eat, potato, potahtoe...
What, nobody thought to call Trump and get him to have that big Canadian faucet turned on?
Hulk Hogan wasn't available to turn it as he was likely cheating on his new wife, needed more steroids and his head was up the Orange One's ass.

It’s too much!!!
My friend's old condo building in the Palisades is gone, and we still don't know about her current place there. It's a lot.

Natural disaster causes (by locality):*

LA dodged a bullet by NOT electing Caruso as mayor.
Can't wait for Short Fingers to blame this on not raking the forests, or insisting that Canada turn on that giant faucet they have up there.
It's truly horrible!
Southern CA is mostly chaparral.
I'd love to see him even attempt to insert a rake into that incredibly dense brush.
I was going to reply: Vacuums...but I see someone else beat me to it.
send in the roombas!

They're in California so he assumes they're likely Democrats, and are Democrats even people?
The Jury is Out!
I'm not really missing living in Topanga. Far fewer fires here in the northwet.

It really is. There used to be a spring up there where locals would go to fill up our water bottles.
