"Canadians also said Fuck You to the Conservative candidate, Trumpish wingnut Pierre Poilievre, who not only lost the national election but was also voted out of his own seat in Parliament."
Na na na na! na na na na! hey hey! goodbye!
NP - Pierre Poilievre didn't just lose his seat. He also likely lost his home
"Shortly after he was elected leader of the Conservative Party, Poilievre moved into Stornoway house, the taxpayer-funded official residence of the leader of the Opposition.
But according to the Official Residences Act, Stornoway is reserved for the “Leader of the Opposition in the House of Commons”. Since Poilievre lost his seat, he is no longer recognized as the official leader of the opposition.
That means that in all likelihood, Poilievre and his family will have to move out to make space for the next party leader in the House of Commons. He also loses out on a $215,090 annual budget for residence staff and services and a $2,000 annual vehicle allocation."
“Neener to you, sir, and I say again, neener.” Employing advanced math skills (raise to the power of 2, carry the seven) that would make two neeners - aka the ever powerful “neener neener”. Whoa!
I have a suggestion for Canada. Being to our north, they are basically our upstairs neighbor, in the NorthAmerican apartment building. They could annoy the hell out of Trump by staying up late, playing loud music, and stomping on the floor.
Happy Workers' Day, y'all... and a defense of AMLO. Yeah, not as fully green as we'd like but two things.
OIL: The theory back when transition to alternative energy came up was that oil revenues would be used to pay for the transition.
ELECTRICITY: Like with PEMEX, the CFE (state electricity company) both are state owned, but were defined as profit making enterprises. He never had the legislative majority needed to push thru the constitutional changes that define their role as resource managers ("in the public interest"). That is, while it's in the public interest to use what oil is still pumped more to make fertilizer (lessening dependence on Russian imports), it is also in the public interest to transition towards more towards alternative energy sources.
His administration did, it should be noted, expand hydro and solar energy projects, but at the time, the solar plants were largely owned by Iberdola (the big Spanish energy conglomerate) and selling power across the border to Arizona and California.
Reunify American and British Columbia! We can call it Salish Cascadia. And also reunify the two Californias - Alta and Baja. And may Antonio de Santa Anna burn in the fossil fueled fires of Hell.
I will never understand why Albertans agree to completely trash their environment--utterly befoul the place where they live--so that we Yankees can drive up and down the street.
Do they need jobs that bad? Are they addicted to the tax revenue from energy-company operations? What is the deal?
Speaking of electric cars and assholes, some douchenozzle in the House proposed upping the federal tax on electric cars from $200 to $250, to try to fill some of the gaping holes in their budget planning. That will DEFINITELY encourage Cletus to buy a Tesla! So much winning Elno!
Here is some economics: Energy cost of operating a gas car is about $0.18 per mile. ( $4.50 per gallon, 25 mpg) That includes $0.02 per mile in gas taxes, to pay for roads. EV cars cost about $0.04 per mile ( $0.13 per kwh, 3.5 miles per kwh ) Eventually we'll need to recover the $0.02 per mile for road maintenance. But in a while
That's right. It's also true that high powered EVs can produce much more torque than gas cars, and that can be really harsh on road surfaces. I looked on the web for the weight of some electric cars of interest, both pure EV and hybrid. Here's a sample of what I found (weights are in pounds):
toyota corolla: 3000 (approx)
toyota prius: 3000
nissan leaf: 3509
toyota rav4 highland: 4300
tesla swastikar: 6700
My thought is that EVs should be taxed based on both weight and torque. I note that the swastikar is a sufficiently grotesque waste of resources that Andrew Tate will want one when he gets out of jail. Which I hope is never.
PP the former presumptuous PM of Canada, pushed for the same bullshit of removing environmental regulations and massive resource exploitation as way of dealing with climate change (as in ignoring the fuck out of it.)
He was former loathed PM Stevia Harper's main attack dog. Stevia spent a lot of time muzzling climate scientists and activists as well as denying climate change actually existed. PP had he won, would have pushed for the same.
Well, Petey can now enroll in one of Canada's trade skills development programs for workers that he fought so hard to remove so he can find work outside the House of Commons where he's been a career politician since age 24.
If global warming is so bad, why do people grow things in greenhouses? Just think of the Earth as a giant greenhouse so that everyone, even those living in Alaska and the pangolins in South Arctica can grow delicious fresh tomatoes outdoors. And all the extra CO2 helps increase the plant growth because it's what plants crave.

That man has more baggage than Sterling Pacific and Samsonite combined. But when it comes to the environment, he was ahead of his time, and helped Great Britain to a more environmental sustainable future. Unlike our Dearest Dementia Addled Leader who wants to give out clean coal to our nation's youth for Christmas because of our yuuuge, beautiful, tariffs!!1!
Neener.
Neener.
OK, I know I'm getting older (hell, I'm an official older now), but I literally cannot remember the last time I heard this.
Yeah, yeah, a well written article re: Canada and Canadian leadership on climate change and all I'm focusing on is 'neener'.
Bite me fanboy.
Ta, Dok. I feel this post deeply.
Bi-lingual! Them's fightin' wurds!

Yeh, but we could yell "Hey, pipe down up there" and pound on the ceiling with a broom handle.
SIR ADMINISTRATION LEAKS CLIMATE POLICY!
1) All countries acknowledging climate change are taking responsible, ameliorative steps
2) So we don't have to -- fuck 'em!
3) Drill Baby Drill
4) Burn Baby Burn
5) I love me the smell of those emissions
6) USA! USA! USA!

How about Washington and Oregon join Canada and California goes back with Mexico?
But Washington (I think) is where that pretty apple growing girl is from.

Electric cars are heavier, too, so they actually cause more road wear just by driving around.

The author of "The Peter Principle" smiles smugly.

You jest (?) but there are literally idiots who have said that more CO2 will be good for the planet because we’ll be able to grow more food. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
... and suffer from the same tropical diseases we enjoy now in the steamy latitudes.
