Sad that this passes as journalism.

Ah, yes. The comedy stylings of the Wall Street Journal, coming soon to the editorial and news pages of the Washington Post, courtesy of William Lewis, the latest hire of Jeff Bezos who used to work for none other than Rupert Murdoch in London at his fishwrap tabloid there.

The Britification of a great American newspaper. Goodbye, WaPo. It was great while it lasted.

Yes he just hired two of his dreadful cronies from Murdoch's tabloids. Goodbye paper that posted the Pentagon Papers, and helped end the Vietnam war. The new staff will cheer on all the forever wars.

I just want to mention that Rupert Murdoch's new wife is the ex wife of Alexander Zhukov (yes, related to THAT Zhukov, you know, the General Zhukov who led the Red Army in WW2, and was NOT at all like the way Jason Isaacs made him (hilariously and you have to see it if you haven't) in The Death of Stalin). Her daughter was married to Roman Abramovitch. Who was jailed for, you know, stuff like arms smuggling & selling to terrorists. Mr. Murdoch getting REAL cozy with those there Russians, is all I'm saying. So you see! The only fucking going on is Rupert working so, so, so hard, to totally fuck the West. Jesus he's a bad person.

Right? It's so weird, like their evil energy creates its own life force. And then truly good people like Alan Rickman die young, it's so unfair.

I seem to remember that Kevin McCarthy got his ass handed to him during debt ceiling negotiations with Joe Biden last year. Pretty embarrassing to be outmaneuvered by an old demented man. i also have memory of Mike Johnson suffering a similar fate

Give the WSJ a break. They interviewed 50 people, ignored the ones who said Biden is a sharp leader, and focused on the Republicans who say inflammatory shit that’s easier to grab headlines with. Nobody is clicking on an article titled, “Biden continues to perform capably despite reasonable changes due to age.” Yawn. “Everyone panic! The GOP think Biden had a lobotomy!” Now that’s journalism.

How about a nice tell all article on Rupert Murdoch? I'm sure he's every bit as sharp as he was 50 years ago, and that there is actually someone still around who can compare how he was then to what he's like now.

A nice sort of ''tell all'' was the James Bond film ''Tomorrow Never Dies'' with Pierce Bronsnan as Biond and Jonathan Pryce as Hong Kong-born British megabillionaire Eliot Carver (Murdoch).

Carver tries to create a war between Chiina and the UK by using his cable news empire to spread falsehooods to start a war.

The great Michelle Yeoh. plays a Chinese army spy who is trying to stop Carver like Bond is.

It is notable thet Yeoh plays what could ba called the first Bond WOMAN, as she does not succumb to Bond in any way. She also did all her own stunts in the film (no surprise), unlike Brosnan.

Worth checking out.

I remember someone telling me well sure their editorial board was bad, but their journalism was still good.

lolz.

At what point does the center and the left just accept that the entire "MSM" sure as fuck is biased, but toward the right, and all that "liberal media" bullshit is a purposeful blind to pretend otherwise?

The WSJ used to do good reporting. Then Murdoch bought it and turned it to trash just like everything else he owns.

That's what they do, they buy actual journalistic outlets, then trash them into tabloids. Like the proverbial boiling frogs some older people won't give up their comfort paper even when it has gone to shit. See: NYT.

I dropped my WaPo subscription because of the stupid bint Linskey, and I told them so. I hope they fired her. Her article was "here's joe Biden walking in a graveyard, while his policies are dying". He was laying flowers on his son's grave. Like a decent, normal person would do.

Unfortunately with the Murdoch men that have recently taken over the WaPo she'll fit right in.

I lost confidence in WaPo too. The truth is, the WSJ, NYT, etc know they can’t afford to survive on 60% of the center/left population. They need at least some of the MAGA righties to click headlines too, so they throw plenty of bones to them with Biden hit pieces, and idiotic stories like “Trump conviction playing out exactly how Trump planned.” And stories about how the more convictions and losses Trump incurs, the stronger he gets. Absurd.

I thought Bezos would have more brains, than to allow a Murdoch takeover, but he probably lost interest in that responsibility of ownership, of one of the few good media sources we had. Although arguably it started to tank after Marty Baron left. Sally Busbee was awful just the queen of both-siderisms. And she hired terrible writers.

Thanks for sharing that piece. I note the date of the article - November 2021 - was both after Marty Baron left (in February 2021), and just a few months after Texas SB8 took effect on September 1, 2021. SB8, of course, banned abortions after 6 weeks in Texas, and implemented the “bounty hunter” scheme whereby ANYONE could file a civil lawsuit in any state court in Texas against anyone who performed or “aided” someone in getting an abortion in Texas after 6 weeks.

Although a federal district judge in Texas granted a preliminary injunction against SB8 because it was clearly unconstitutional at the time (it went into effect - bitter LOL - 9 months before Dobbs went into effect), the 5th Circuit overturned the injunction, and SCOTUS refused to issue a stay. It was then I knew that abortion rights would be overturned by SCOTUS.

Buzbee was indeed terrible, but I have no faith that the latest changes in management at WaPo will be better, and will most likely be worse. Time for me to start throwing money at The Guardian and ProPublica instead.

Yes, Bezos may have been targeted by the Barking yam, but he wants those tax-cuts! It will definitely go far right. He’s thinking everyone will just stay subscribed and they can add all the right-wingers, too.

You would think there would be room for at least ONE “liberal” newspaper of record, and judging by the comments at WaPo, that is what their readers want. Instead, it went downhill after Marty Baron retired, and everyone seems to think it will get even worse after Buzbee’s sudden quit-firing. As one commenter noted, Murdoch managed to take over WaPo without spending a dime.

When Jennifer Rubin is your best opinion columnist supporting Joe Biden (and she is, IMHO), that says a lot.

WaPo is going to see a huge wave of cancellations over their latest editorial decisions, including mine.

"“Behind Closed Doors, Biden Shows Signs of Slipping,” blares the headline, and it’s one of those things where the headline graphic takes up the whole page, so it must be important."

Did anyone *really* think that the WSJ would have anything positive to say about Pres Biden? Over the years the Journal has transformed itself into an American Pravda, good only for propaganda targeting those who already agree with their respective editorial positions, and for those with a substantial stock portfolio.

When I entered the business sector after graduation the Journal was de rigueur reading for anyone who was either an investor or a businessperson. Today, its predominant demographic is composed of WORMs (White Old Republican Men).

-----

"What if we told you their main on-the-record source was Kevin McCarthy, the former Republican House speaker? Also, they found some people who have talked to Mike Johnson, the current speaker....

What if we told you literally all the rest of their sources who say Biden is hopelessly senile are anonymous people who are also Republicans?"

Again, is anyone surprised? Since the Journal is the "Paper of Record" for pseudo-conservatives -- most of whom are RINOs -- quoting a Dem is a sure-fire way to lose readership. Furthermore, the usage of anonymous sources to a large degree (every media source grants anonymity to sources for some of the quotes in an article) is pretty much the same as the Mango Malignancy saying "I've heard" or "people are saying:" it's a cop out and a way to avoid being held accountable for what's said.

-----

"He pauses! Aggravated pauser!"

Never mind his pausing, what's up with his usual slowly raising a hand and touching the side of his face? That must be a sign of senility or having some sort of terminal illness. The Dems better dump him yesterday or we'll have a Pres Harris!

-----

"The flaming woke mob on “Morning Joe” today noted how Kevin McCarthy’s previous statements on the very same meetings featured in Linskey’s and Hughes’s loaded diaper of an article directly contradict the things he says in the article."

Given enough time every member of the New GOP (there are still a few old school Repubs, but the breed will soon be extinct) will contradict themselves multiple times. They enter every presser, or one-on-one interviews, and start the same way: "Don't fact check me on what I said yesterday compared to what I say today. What I previously said doesn't count because I truly mean what I'm saying today, and what I say tomorrow will be the reality that supersedes my comments of today."
