Not necessarily true.

Alaska became a state on January 3rd, while Hawaiʻi became a state on August 21, 1959, and YES, here was a short-lived 49-star flag including only Alaska, and then the familiar 50-star flag later that year. The 49-star flags are very rare. Original ones now go for about $650.00 to $995.00, but you can buy ''replicas'' for much cheaper.

Only if they both became states on the sam exact day, like ND and SD, would 2 stars be added for the next flag.

If you did that you'd probably end up with one giant Republican stronghold, as the Dems in VT would be swamped by the combination of Repubs in NH and ME.And you can still have VI, GU, and AS without getting rid of or combining states.
