$30K in a year for 17yr old working their butts off is not a bad idea considering (a) they may be college bound soon and can use that to pay for things (b) rent's gonna be a thing and first/last deposits can be a dealbreaker for some when moving(c) why should they have to settle for a used car just because they're teens(d) it's never too early to start saving for a house / retirement / etc(e) they may need to be contribute to the household

If a 17yr can pull off 20-30 hours a week (assuming they don't take off the two week and work full shift every weekend), they could pull in a nice chunk of change to start their adult lives. The young buy EVERYTHING and so we want them to have cash to blow. They buy tech and merch and food and services; in the Before Times of a family and mortgage weighing you down financially, money could go towards any flight of fancy or big splurge. Once you get older, it gets harder to justify buying that shiny new tech or vacation when you have to worry about kid's dentist bills.
