I'll bang my drum here again.

Nationalize data delivery; wire, fiber and over the air. Let companies bid to lease bandwidth, and let them grow niches that make them attractive to the consumer. This way you could go back to having 30 ISPs in the local area, all of whom have followers.

"Rob Atkinson, president of a the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation,

bemoans the loss of Palo Alto's profits in arguing 'many of the services big tech companies now provide free used to cost consumers money.'"

Rob is either a moron or full of shit. Tech companies provide hardly ANYTHING for free, and many of the services we now use that are supported by ads used to NOT have ads (Youtube, anyone?). Pretending that tech companies offer free stuff to consumers because they care about them is utter bullshit. They are still profiting via data-mining and ads and god knows what, and we bear the burden of those invasions, violations and inconveniences.
