A California judge has ordered the once-hip adolescent chain boutique Abercrombie & Fitch to pay a quantity of dollars to Umme-Hani Khan because this is America, damn it, and sometimes we get it right. Ms. Khan, a Muslim, "had interviewed wearing a headscarf and ... her job was to fold clothes in the stockroom, where she wasn’t visible to customers" (of course), but still Abercrombie & Fitch decided to fire her, as their "Look Policy" (gross) says you can't wear stuff on your head unless it looks sexy (it doesn't actually say that, but probably, right?) Abercrombie & Fitch, what are you doing?
Hey, it was a JOB fer crissakes! As in, something you do for munnez and you try like hell to hang onto so you can keep doing it, because paycheck and keeping body and soul together? Also, too, because cratered job market & high unemployment & millions still out of work? (Including Yr. Wonkedaro here.)
Allah never commanded faithful women to wear a head scarf (as a hijab, a word that has other meanings), nor did Muhammad. It was adopted as a practice that satisfied the requirements that women maintain modesty in dress when they are in public places and that men refrain from gazing in an overly familiar (i.e., lustful) manner at women who are not their wives. So the hijab head scarf is a Muslim practice (and a legal requirement in some jurisdictions, while also being banned in others) that is not specifically mandated in the Qur'an or in quotes attributed to Muhammad himself.
In Western societies it is worn as much (maybe even more) as a symbol and signifier of the woman's faith as it is in order to adhere to a code of attire.
Ah, c&#039;mon, A&amp;F has sold <a href="http:\/\/www.findingdulcinea.com\/news\/on-this-day\/April\/Robert-Peary-Possibly-Reaches-North-Pole.html" target="_blank">some cool stuff</a>.
(Disclaimer: I suspect all the outfits there were self-supplied and not part of the A&amp;F gear.)
A company that supplies hipster douche bags behaves like hispter douche bags. These are the same HDBs (that&#039;s the new term for them in my town) that sit a bar wearing their male capri pants, order a PBR, thinking that&#039;s hip. It&#039;s not hip: its douchey.
A&amp;F has advanced itself from douchebag to kalostomy bag.
The original A&amp;F, when they had a store in Manhattan, and Chicago, and SF, was a pretty cool place. And they did outfit things like polar expeditions (It was, basically, the world&#039;s biggest sporting goods store).
That incarnation went bankrupt in the 70s(?), and it&#039;s been a long downhill slide since then.
Well, since you mention it, actually yes you could: <a href="http://blogs.wsj.com/law/20..." target="_blank">" rel="nofollow noopener" title="http://blogs.wsj.com/law/2012/04/09/ninth-circuit...">http://blogs.wsj.com/law/20...

From what I remember of A&amp;F ads, their clothing looked to be in immediate danger of falling off.
Manpris libel!
And even that would be banned in Saudi Arabia.
With FSM as my witness, I thought you were joking. It&#039;s real. My gawd...
Upfist just for your name!
Fitch, please.
