Austin is a woman? I used to say every MAN in Texas is named Austin, Houston, Dallas, Nolan, or Ryan. But apparently that has spread to all genders now.
To me it's all in a big merry basket called 'medical privacy'. I don't even need to know what you and your doc talked about. Maybe you need an abortion, or your trans kid needs a script refill, or you need a heart valve that used to be inside a pig, or your dick is too floppy, or whatever!?! Not my business!!!!
I believe this is what you are referring to and why the Hell is a Texas court permitted to submit ANY ruling affecting how other States govern when they are defying Federal law themselves?
Wait! It's a bunch of wimmen testifying. That can't be. Won't someone think of the white Christofascist males' non-medical superstitious opinions? How it must hurt them to be so ignored!
The Biden campaign needs to turn all this into campaign ads. The GOP's assault on women needs to be front and center in 2024 in every possible way. It's a winner for Dems. And it's the blind spot for a lot of the pundit class, which makes it even more important. I generally love JVL over at the Bulwark but his every assessment of Biden v Trump utterly elides the impact of Dobbs - likely because he himself is a pro-life Catholic and just doesn't get it. But it's big. And we need a megaphone on it.
UGH!!! That sucks. I picked up microspikes a few years ago for hiking in the winter but I find I use them more frequently walking on icy asphalt and sidewalks.
Currently powered, and it's a balmy 50ish degrees, if rather rainy. I'm prepared for more outages, and we're having a localized supply chain issue, because food and gasoline trucks weren't able to get through the coast range due to iced over roads and downed trees. But they're saying things should be getting back to normal tomorrow.
And fortunately we've been safe the whole time through.
It thoroughly and absolutely enrages me that in the 21st century when human beings are living in space stations orbiting the damned planet the paranoid, petulant homo Sapiens populating that planet are citing an ancient religious text of questionable integrity in order to physically subjugate more than half of their own species.
There are days when I really don't believe that homo Sapiens can be rendered extinct soon enough.
The thing is, though, the only mention in the Bible regarding abortion is God giving a man the "recipe" for an abortion causing potion that he's supposed to use as a test of his wife's fidelity. It never explicitly forbids abortion. When you point this out to Bible thumpers, they just come back with the commandment "Thou shalt not kill".
Once I tried pointing out to a pro-lifer that a government with the power to force a woman to carry a pregnancy to term could just as easily force a woman to have an abortion. The person refused to see why a government would do the latter, as if they never heard of ethnic cleansing.
I've been saying this for years. I used to work for a guy who was anti abortion, but he was also a lawyer and smart enough to get it. He opposed abortion, but he also opposed a Constitutional amendment outlawing it precisely because he knew how it could be turned around. As someone once said, giving the government the power to do something is like giving a steak to a tiger - easy to give, hard to take back.
In your opinion, did he qualify as a pro-choicer? The demarcation for the two sides is whether abortion should be legal or illegal, not necessarily on whether it’s right or wrong.
Can't watch now, but good for the senators having this briefing and inviting experts to testify and to answer questions. Too bad that those who need to see and hear it won't.

About 2 years ago my sister's niece married a gal named Dallas. Our first lesbian wedding in the family. Good kids , both of them.

If only everyone was as humane and as good about minding their own business as you, we would be in a much better place. I feel the same way.
Let's spread that gospel :-)

The republican position on nonviable pregnancies is that Jesus will miracle away any defects if you just believe hard enough.
Oh both the woman and the fetus died? Well, obviously, it’s her fault for not believing hard enough.
Jeebuz is too busy determining sports match outcomes, leave a message *beep*

Thank you for the kitties

Completely OT, I just wiped out on the front steps. Not fond of ice storms. But at least I found my glasses.
I hope you are okay.
I'm glad you found your glasses! I know how that feels.
Ugh! Glad you’re all right.
UGH!!! That sucks. I picked up microspikes a few years ago for hiking in the winter but I find I use them more frequently walking on icy asphalt and sidewalks.
Shit!!!!
Jesus, as I recall, that's all cement and brick. So sorry - sometimes there's not enough salt and gravel in the world.
Just a scraped elbow. I didn't realize how icy it is.I hope you have power and are safe.
Heal quickly, Woman.

Are you okay? That's terrible! I'd have broken a hip, ffs. Glad about the glasses!
I'm fine, thanks. Just a bit battered. And I just wanted to see if my car would start.

They should open an abortion clinic called "God's Recipe"!!
Bible thumpers have the GD nerve to use "thou shalt not kill" about ANYTHING?!

Happened in China during the "one child" policy era.
I have also pointed this out. Apparently the idea of body autonomy is just too difficult to these people.

I think he probably thought it should be illegal, but at the state level not as a Constitutional amendment.
As if that would make a practical difference for the women in those states.
Thank you. For years, I've been telling "pro-life" people they are actually pro-choice.
Pro-privacy aka whose goddamn business is it anyway
Valenti underscores the brutal truth regarding the Rethug perspective regarding abortion.
This is not about women's health or safety. This is ALL about subjugation and control.
I've been following the impact on women.
One of the main reasons these days while I feel both extremely depressed and yet ragingly stabby at the same time.
Stay stabby, Pony Boy, stay Stabby
👍👏👏👏
It reminds me of the disdain they have for government programs between the cradle and the grave.
Like it's immoral to help living people.
Oh it's just too expensive, they can't afford us people.
And this is why they attack Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training.
That and they ran out of caravans of immigrants.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^THIS!^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
They have disdain for prenatal programs too. Try suggesting to them that we should have subsidized prenatal healthcare.
🎯
They love money and things over people.
Only reason they want to ban abortion isn't to "save lives", but to put women back in what they see as a woman's "proper place."
I'm grateful someone thought to invited Jessica Valenti. She can humanize the women harmed in the way that only passionate story-tellers can.
Patty Murray is another reason why I'm proud to be a lifetime Washington state resident.
Yes! Yes! Same!!!!!!

For what it's worth, I had an abortion when I was 19. It was the right choice.
Same here, my husband didn't want to have a kid, he went into panic-meltdown mode.
I paid for one when I was MUCH younger. It was also the right choice for both of us.
It was also YOUR choice, as it should be. Why is this hard?
I have chosen to terminate two pregnancies.
One to save my education and future, one quite literally to save my life.
Good for you.
I had two, one in my late 30's, one in my early 40's. It was also the right choice.
