I figure the only time anyone ever saw a genuine smile from DeSantis was when he was watching detainees being force-fed at Gitmo. He’s a scary dude.

I am a big fan of people not following orders. If nobody followed orders we couldn't have war, genocide, or slavery. Which, you know, are literally the worst things ever.

skinnercitycyclist's avatar

You also get things like Abu Ghraib.

Regret's avatar

Yep, another example of the evils caused by following orders. Imagine any atrocity and then imagine if everyone involved said "[insert atrocity here]? No thank you, I'm going home and making a pot of tea, do you want some too?"

skinnercitycyclist's avatar

Abu Ghraib was a case of not following orders, I believe. Maybe I am recalling incorrectly.

I am a-ok with the tea thing.

Regret's avatar

Abu Ghraib is a prison, which cannot exist when everybody does the tea thing.

There were political prisoners there, which cannot exist when everybody does the tea thing.

They were tortured, which would not happen when everybody does the tea thing.

The thing with violence? It makes you spill your tea, so it is inherently incompatible with the tea thing :D

(Can you tell I really like the way you phrased that?)

Yes, but getting all the t's dotted and the i's crossed is where all the complications come in.

I ain't got time for this mung bug. Term limit comin' up. Good luck with your motivational speaking career!

Ward From Cali's avatar

That will not be the last of him. I'm sure he'll run for President again, if Trump's out of the way. He's that stupid.

Hank Napkin's avatar

Never could the term “stumping” be more appropriate!

Ta, Robyn. DeathSentence needs to put on his white go-go boots and get-get gone.

TWO MORE YEARS!....TWO MOR....

Sorry, does that still sting, Ron?

isn't casey de santis going to run for the gop nomination for governor?

we might be out of the fire, into the frying pan in 2027.

GrannysKnitting's avatar

i dunno if i should be impressed he woahed up, or ask where his spine was the first time

Regret's avatar

Personally I am impressed. If people change for the better, more power to them.

The bar to be a hero has been set very low. The Cheneys are now great defenders of Democracy, for Pete's sake. No matter how this election turns out, there's no doubt that America has really sunk to new lows of moral cowardice.

Unfortunately a more intelligent would be fascist is not an improvement.

I would love to have a drink with John Wilson. He grew up.

Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

Aw, come on. He's out of work.

JustDontSayDittos's avatar

Boo fkn hoo. He did send out that first memo before he realized he was being set up as the fall guy. So he has the conscience of Michael Cohen. So he can buy me a beer and weep while I drink and toast his tears.

Up there with "some asshole is sending letters out on your letterhead."

Love to see cultural references from the Judges’ rulings lately. The slap back for doing something OBVIOUSLY frivolous and knowingly illegal.

Boscoe's avatar

Funny how these repubi-creeps like to do things they know are illegal and trick some other person into signing them. WIlson must be dumber than ME, because my first response without even thinking about it would've been: "Huh? YOU wrote it, why don't YOU sign it??"

OR, of course he was totally down with all of it, up until he realized it was going to go sideways and HE had set himself up to be the fall guy.

algore lactating's avatar

when you're more gullible than southern partisan john ashcroft, who sang for years in the boiband singing senators without realizing larry craig was the gay one, you need to check yourself.

Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

Like whichever Chump lawyer took the other lawyer's word that he checked and there weren't any more secret documents at Mar-a-Lago, so why don't just go ahead and sign that for me.

Hellsbells69's avatar

I didn’t see your post before I wrote pretty much the same thing. You said it better than I did.

Bel-Ami's avatar

I'm guessing that Mr Wilson is intelligent enough and not so blinded by right-wing ideology that he could see the legal consequences of continuing to participate in this fascist nonsense and bailed.

"M"'s avatar

Not before he signed that first letter, though ...

Just James's avatar

I'm not exactly convinced "moral compunctions" had much to do with his decision, it seems more likely to me that he just recognized how completely indefensible the letters were and got out while the getting was good. The article doesn't note him expressing any remorse, and his conscience seems to have kicked in a bit late...

Hellsbells69's avatar

He recognized there’s only one reason for them to coerce him to send that missive from his office, and direct HIM to hire counsel. His reputation/career would suffer when the inevitable challenges were brought to court, and De Santis would throw him under the bus and escape all responsibility. I agree there’s no remorse in that letter, although it’s probably in his testimony.

Bitter Scribe's avatar

Seriously, what is that DeSantis motherfucker going to do with himself once his term-limited tenure as governor ends? Become some sort of Fox News talking head? I can't imagine even their viewers could stand to listen to him for more than 30 seconds. But I also can't picture him getting any kind of a real job, either.

Maybe he'll stab Rick Scott in the back and run for the Senate. That debate would be fun to watch.

Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

He'd better find something to get him out of the house. You know what's waiting at home?

Casey DeSantis, the woman who'll never be First Lady.

Bitter Scribe's avatar

"You made me stumble through icy cowshit and swallow grease for MONTHS, and I have NOTHING to show for it!!"

Bat Boy versus Bootsie; Two go in, only one walks out. The most dramatic fight since Ghidra versus Godzilla!

lower case's avatar

Or none walk out. I vote for none.

Hellsbells69's avatar

Why not all of the above?

TakingAmes's avatar

I mean, he could have resigned rather than send the first set of letters, but I guess we’ll take what we can get.

Regret's avatar

Hierarchy often gaslights people into thinking that leaders can and should be trusted blindly. I'll give him a pass on the first one, just to avoid the risk of blaming a gaslighting victim.

Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

Higher ups set it in front of him and said, "Sign," and he signed.

Then he went home, told the wife about his day, and she said, "You fucking did what? You want to get sued into oblivion? You can't do that again."
