Mjah, it propably will matter Im afraid. Im all for copium and trying to get the public to understand that even zombie-Biden is better than the Bannon puppet, but its a hard sell. He just looks so goddamn old, if i was trying for a spin I would spin "Team Democrat" instead of him as a frontfigure.
President Biden underperformed, sadly. I remember his excellent performance in the VP debate with Paul Ryan. Knowing his communication skills do not compare with his executive governing skills, I would have preferred that President Biden just announced, months ago, that if the Republicans choose to nominate a convicted felon, and adjudicated rapist, who also faces charges for mishandling classified documents, and conspiring to overturn the 2020 election by conspiring to submit slates of false electors, and inciting violence at the Capitol, that was on them. But he wouldn't disgrace the office of the President by sharing a debate stage with such a loathsome specimen.
He choked. It happens. My soul mate tells me it happened recently to a guy named Roy Mackerel Roy, who was assailed by bogies while trying to hit a ball with a stick. He wouldn't give an interview after. At least Joe is back in the saddle.
Setting aside for the moment the fact that the moderators didn't do shit about shit...
In retrospect, and with 20/20 hindsight, I think that President Biden and his team should have been better prepared, not in terms of memorization of facts, but more in terms of know thine enemy.
Trump is an egomaniac, and the good guys should have anticipated that he would use the debate as though it were one of his pep rallies -- lie, lie, lie, whine, whine, whine, and brag, brag, brag. Their mistake was assuming that the debate would be an actual debate, with rules and moderators -- as they were repeatedly assured -- rather than one adult and one poo flinging chimp. We've all seen enough of this asshat by now to know that he WON'T follow rules, has NO attention span, and CAN'T stop lying.
It is physically impossible to refute 10 lies in the 2 minutes allotted for rebuttal -- it would have been impossible for the fast-talking guy on the old FedEx commercials, let alone an old guy with a stutter -- and they should have anticipated that. The first time President Biden was supposed to say his rebuttal, he should have turned to Stinky and said, "Every word that you just said is a lie, and it's all been repeatedly debunked", then turned to the audience and said, "This guy is a notorious liar, and has been for 40 years. You might want to take what he says with a grain of salt." -- thereby cutting the ground out from under Trump right at the outset (the fact that it would also piss him off is just a nice little bonus).
From that point on, President Biden should have picked half a dozen short, positive talking points: "WE have gotten unemployment to a record low", "WE capped the price of insulin", "WE added a record number of jobs", "WE will protect a woman's right to choose", and hammered them, over and over and over. Stick to your accomplishments; it's not like there aren't plenty of them. Repeat them. Say them over and over. Really hammer on it. Like I'm doing now. Nobody gives a shit what some legal scholar said about Trump, and nobody REALLY gives a shit about golf. Just repeat your short, positive talking points.
Lastly, when Trump is going on and on about, "IMMIGRANTS TOOK OUR CHILD CARE!", "IMMIGRANTS GAVE US COVID!", "IMMIGRANTS ARE DOING AFTER-BIRTH ABORTIONS!", "YOU'RE THE WORST PRESIDENT EVER AND EVERYBODY HATES AMERICA NOW!", give it exactly as much serious consideration as such stupidity deserves. I suppose it would be beyond whatever shreds of decorum are still left to openly make the jerk-off gesture on live TV, but surely that leaves leeway to roll your eyes, or point to him with your thumb like, "Get a load of THIS fuckin' guy!", or mutter under your breath, "Whatever you need to tell yourself, Mr. Mushroom."
With all due modesty, ANY of that would have made President Biden come across better.
It's impressive how much denial people are in. I hate Trump as much as anyone, but Joe took a dump on stage last night, and it didn't give the independents the assurance they needed. If we're not honest with ourselves about this, we might as well hand the keys over now.
I only watched the first 30 minutes of the debate, so I can’t comment on the debate as a whole, but from what I saw I thought Biden did much better than Trump.
Yes, Biden seemed slower than Trump, but he told the truth while Trump lied nonstop.
I will always back the person who has the education and experience instead of the person who relies on nepotism.
From a PR perspective, Biden's debate performance was a solid win for these reasons:
EVERYONE is talking about Joe Biden, no one is talking about Trump, there is no such thing as bad publicity;
Trump doesn't know what to do if no one is talking about him or showing him on TV;
Because Biden is front and center on TV, he can now set the narrative;
After debate polls are generally favorable to Biden, so he got the basic job done;
Biden is the only person to contradict Trump to his face in real time on any issue and Biden didn't hesitate in calling Trump a liar to his face on national TV;
Biden was immediately back out in public and on TV, Trump was no where to be seen.
Lots of good things to pull out of the debate for Biden and his team.
Never saw such a spectacle of Dem pearl-clutching and bed-wetting as has been on display last night and today. Jettison the man who has done more for our economy, workers, young folks burdened by college debt, veterans, and those in need of prescriptions like insulin because of one flubbed debate performance? Get real: MAGAworld denizens everywhere must be popping those corks on their bottles of Cold Duck and toasting the PAB for his "triumph." Don't know about you, but I'm listening to Rebecca Solnit and Heather Cox Richardson on this one. We must work harder. Biden must crush Trump and his fascist enablers going forward.
“WE’RE STILL WITH THE GUY WHO HAD A CRAPPY DEBATE BUT IS GOOD AT PRESIDENTING” The people on the thread yelling for a replacement…really…you never once thought of OUR VICE PRESIDENT!! WTF. I am going to vote for Biden/Harris even though I live in the hellscape of Texas. I beg fellow Dems to STOP SHOOTING YOURSELF IN THE FOOT. Jesuschristonastick, some of you guys make me tired of living
No one is talking about Kamala because her approval ratings are worse than Biden's. Personally, I liker her a lot and would support her a million percent, but she is not electable in today's America at this particular moment. That is the harsh truth.

Excellent thread on the Felon Candidate's body language during the debate:

Ta, Dok. A firehose of lies, damned lies, and more lies. This is what we are up against.
At least it's a named rhetorical technique (the Gish gallop). HCR covered it 6/27 and Wikipedia quotes Mehdi Hasan on how to counter (Like.):

Yeah well... if he wants to continue to be good at presidenting, he better get better at communicating, and I mean now.
I'm sure your opinion is the most important thing on earth to Biden.
I'll notify the news media.
How is it, exactly, that President Biden fumbling the debate doesn't make him *even MORE popular*?
You know, like Trump and his first impeachment...
Or Trump and his second impeachment...
Or Trump inciting a coup...
Or Trump being found guilty of fraud...
Or Trump being found guilty of r @ pe...
Or Trump being found guilty of 34 felonies...
Or or or?

Shoulda coulda woulda... fact is the Dems chose this thing, and they fucked it royally. TYVM.
Fact is, you're an inept Russkytroll and too stupid not to block. TYVM.

President Biden needs to have short, positive, easily memorable sound bytes:
"LOWEST UNEMPLOYMENT IN 50 YEARS"
"MOST AMERICANS INSURED IN HISTORY"
"PRESCRIPTION PRICES CAPPED"
"MOST JOBS ADDED"
Etc.

Stop staring at nothing with your mouth open. I mean god Damn! Does this guy have any handlers or what?

That's you. Unfortunately many, if not most, voters go on emotions and curb appeal.

Oh please.
I think you’re right. For once trump’s insanity is getting no coverage
Biden needs more quick witted quips to put Trump off his game
Trump lies about Biden and China? Bring up Ivanka's patents and Jared's sketchy Saudi deal
Trump lies about abortion? Bring up all the times Trump raped women
Biden needs quick ways to put Trump on defense.
The few times that happened, Trump didn't know what to say and looked like an even bigger asshole
This was a very good summary.
Never saw such a spectacle of Dem pearl-clutching and bed-wetting as has been on display last night and today. Finally some sense. The catastrophizing Eeyore motherfuckers are OVER THE NOSE.
"Get real: MAGAworld denizens everywhere must be popping those corks on their bottles of Cold Duck and toasting the PAB for his "triumph.""
`
Cold Duck? Don't you mean PBR?
Also, PAB could have vomited on stage and his fans would be calling it a "triumph", because that's how cults work.
I mean it was bad. As long as he pulls it together (so far okay) I’m down, but if he can’t do it I don’t want another RBG
THANK YOU.
