Hitting a deer is bad. Hitting one en route to Taco Bell at midnight would put me over the edge. That amount of damage is staggering....I don't think I've ever owned a vehicle that was even worth close to that much! Glad it didn't set you back too much though.

Part of my unease with oversharing is generational, maybe. I grew up in a hard place where people didn't talk about these things...not that I'm endorsing THAT. But I guess I tend to reserve deeply personal issues for those I feel very close to and very safe with, but I realize not everyone is as fortunate to have those kind of people in their lives as I am. But it just overwhelms me at times....a type of grim one-upmanship takes over; "you think THAT sucks, well listen to THIS!" And then you starting getting people you've never even seen before stopping by to talk about how fucked up THEIR lives are...what do you say? Of course, like you, I can just skip it, right?

We have small gatherings of just family; my two brothers, one sister-in-law, Jr., my niece and her partner. That's a big change from a much larger, more raucous and festive past, but with my mom's age and her living in a small apartment, necessary. I was talking to her today about it; the good thing about our get togethers is that it isn't about food, or gifts, or old traditions, but that we all really like one another, enjoy one another's company. No Republicans, nobody who just got out of jail and shows up drunk. Just the warmth of family. Anyway, if we don't chat before then, I hope you have a wonderful time of it, and that the coming year is an easier one for you than this one has been.
