Equal amounts Pom juice and sugar. 1/2 cup is enough, usually. Very low heat on stovetop, stir to melt sugar. Remove from heat and stir in a couple drops of orange blossom water (sold in bottles, and a little goes a LONG way). You can use other berry juices as well. Or throw in, mush up, simmer, and then strain out whole berries as you like.

ETA: keeps in fridge for a couple weeks, if it isn’t all gone by then

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A local union leader was hospitalized during a confrontation in response to immigration raids in downtown Los Angeles Friday.

David Huerta, president of the Service Employees International Union California (SEIU) and SEIU- United Service Workers West, was injured during his arrest. According to Rep. Gil Cisneros (C-31), Huerta was also tased.

The arrest happened as hundreds of protesters rallied in downtown Los Angeles late Friday afternoon, condemning the ICE immigration raids that took place at three different locations across L.A. earlier in the day.

At some point, there was a scuffle involving federal agents and it appeared Huerta was pushed down and hit his head. One video shows a federal agent pushing Huerta while he has his hands at his hips, after which, he falls to the ground.

He was hospitalized and treated for his injuries, but has since been released. Huerta remains in custody, according to a statement from the union.

https://abc7.com/post/seiu-president-injured-detained-during-confrontation-dtla-amid-response-ice-raids/16682922/

The article goes on to say that he was born in the US and is in ICE custody. This is bad.

It's pouring at the pied-à-nuage and I'm loving the sound of rain on metal roof. We have had our delectable fruit bowls (I cut the pineapple), flowery green tea, elitist avocado toast on locally made seven grain, and I'm sipping lovely black coffee. We know Suzie said to make our own main dish and she's bringing the sides, but we made enough vegan (and gluten free) pasta to share with everyone coming to the Vermont WonkMeet. Good day, beloved Wonketteers. I love and appreciate you all and I bless us all with love, health, peace, and grace.

Please, please stay safe. Wear a mask or two, wash your hands, sanitize when you cannot wash and let the sanitizer dry completely, stop touching your face, take Vitamin D, get a booster shot when due and get any other vaccines you need while we still can, avoid indoor and crowded outdoor gatherings and when you must meet, remove masks only to eat, drink, and take quick photos, and stay the fuck away from me and everyone with whom you do not share a roof. Do this because you love yourself, and because I love you, too. Do this in memory of dear departed family and friends like Forever 27 Treg and heroic Tony, Holly's pilot friend, among nearly eight million dead worldwide. Do this to honor the nurses and other frontline medical personnel (greetings and salutations, Wonkette medicos), particularly ICU Hera Mrs Land Shark RN. Be kind, especially to yourself, and please stay safe.

5:28 AM in the morning on an oh my God I can’t believe I thought this was a good idea day.

In the next couple of hours, equipment and materials will be turning up at my place and all hell will break loose. By Monday, the low spot in my driveway in my driveway will be opened up, drainage installed and run to daylight and the pile of gravel that’s been sitting next to my house for five years for this purpose will be dropped on top of it.

Landscaping done, compacted, acidic, soil in front of the house, pulled out and topsoil inserted, trail opened up on my property that will give me access to the wood supply back there, and leave a nice little nature trail for morning walks and winter recreation.

The future is here. Now. Today. And I just want to pull the quilt over my head and go back to sleep.

I know no one likes to admit it, but the fascists didn't win (a win I still expect to be more temporary than they think) because they were smarter than us. This wasn't a brilliant scheme, and they don't have brilliant schemes now. We were beaten by idiots because they had more money than us, and spent decades using that money to make this possible. Because billionaires who aren't themselves fascists would rather risk fascism than pay more in taxes. And because the smart people are too easily divided, and many of them still haven't done the work necessary to recognize how deeply the racism and misogyny of this culture is baked into their thinking.

“One who fears the dark.”

“And so he should,” said the entity, with satisfaction.

“Indeed. But I think you misunderstand. I am not here to keep darkness out. I’m here to keep it in.” There was a clink of metal as the shadowy watchman lifted a dark lantern and opened its little door. Orange light cut through the blackness. “Call me . . . the Guarding Dark. Imagine how strong I must be.”

The Summoning Dark backed desperately into the alley, but the light followed it, burning it.

“And now,” said the watchman, “get out of town.”
