Oh boy, I had an "am I the asshole?" moment at the grocery store. As I went in, I saw a couple of high school guys. one walking, one clumsily backing a motorized shopping cart away from the wall (there were two other carts not in use). I figured they were farting around but shrugged it off, because hey, some disabilities aren't visible and maybe the kid needed it. Five minutes later I turned a corner and there they were, switched places, and damn me I said something, asked if they actually needed the cart or were just goofing around.

I pointed out that they shouldn't be using the cart if they don't have mobility problems, raised my voice some, and one said, "Well why do you care? you're making a bigger deal out of this than the employees"

Then a couple in their late 20s or so joined in, or the guy did, telling me to mind my own business and what's it to me? I said, well, they're using the cart when they don't need it, and he asked me if I needed it, (no), so why not let them have fun, they're kids.

Then the kids thanked the guy for supporting them, and I reported 'em to customer service, where the guy seemed half ready to go off chasing after them although there were people in line. So that was validating at least.

Anyway, I got to be the old busy body they'll have a good laugh over, and why did I even bother? OK, so that's out of my system.

(To be clear: this is not a "kids these days" thing. In *my* day, we were thoughtless little jerks too. This is a "people don't think about others" thing. Or maybe it's a "I need to justify my being an interfering busybody" thing.)

OK, I Tivo'd Chris Hayes, time to watch.

Clouds always add something interesting to the skyline at night. The building in the center with the blue spire is One World Trade Center.
