Note to self: NEVER make Hollandaise sauce again. Jazus. Do you know how many cigs I smoked during the endless whisking? Hel, I even added flour AND and extra egg yolk. Hollandaise is good, but it ain't nectar of the gods. And I'm still trying to reduce it.

Stupid recipes that say "this will be easy." No, it most certainly will be not.

MO state legislator submits bill to offer $1k bounties for turning in "an illegal."

I refer you to Richard Pipes, discussing the process by which the Tsars of Russia degraded their people into the most abject of slaves:

-------------------

"It has been noted above that the Code of 1649 made one exception to the rule forbidding peasants to complain against landlords, and that was when the complaint concerned actions detrimental to the [local agents of the Tsar]. …

Denunciation would not have been half as effective a means of control were it not for the collective responsibility inherent in 'tialgo' [communal taxation]. Since the taxes and labour services of anyone who fled his … community fell on its remaining members…, the government has some assurance that tialgo-payers would attentively watch one another.…

So the state watched its subjects, and the subjects watched one another. The effect of this mutual surveillance on the collective mind of Russian society can be readily imagined. No one would allow someone else in his group or caste to improve his lot because it was as likely as not done at his expense. Self-interest required social levelling. The Russian was required to denounce and he was eager to do so. … Under such conditions, society could neither develop any sense of common cause nor undertake joint resistance against authority."

--------------------

As has always been the case, turning society against itself is a predecessor to mass enslavement.

Take from this what you will--at the end of the main part of my dream last night I dreamed that I was writing out that dream here on Wonkette, and it was frustrating for two reasons--one, I couldn't remember "Jane Fonda" and kept writing the wrong names while trying to tell y'all about that aspect of the dream, and then secondly I mentioned that in my dream there was a part involving my credit card and everyone here was like, "you need to cancel that! Cut it up!" and I was like, "at top it says it was a DREAM!" but nobody would listen.

In real life, husband brought home Earl Grey scones that look really good, and sound good for a cozy morning with coffee, but I can't drink tea at all, even a little, without IMMEDIATE action so I'm afraid to taste these. I wonder if there's a tiny enough amount, or that it being baked, would change the reaction?

I really want one, and also--I'm not all that sensitive to things--he KNOWS I can't have tea, so what the hell?

I just mentioned it to him, and he's like, "well, the thing that makes it Earl Grey is an additive".

"Yes, Sweetheart--and they add that bergamot to TEA."

"Oh, so you think that's a problem?"

For a smart guy he's so oblivious.

I'm going to try a bite and then await the coming upset.

Seems kinda like that CEO’s killer is getting a huge police response, costing millions, that an ordinary citizen would not. A nineteen year old was murdered in broad daylight near my apartment, and the police did not even knock on doors even though the killer was known (motive robbery). Unequal justice

Of course. Even assuming the detectives would prefer to put equal work into both cases (I know, shut up), the media attention on this one would pressure them to put more effort on this.

This is why I am skeptical of the guy from the hostel. As far as the police have let out the only thing connecting the two are a casual appearance.

But the media has stated they are in fact the same person, but do nothing to follow up on why or ask why the police are calling him a "person of interest" rather than a "suspect".

Rocket Cat's avatar

I mean, I know they go loco when a cop gets killed, understandable, but how is this more important than any other murder?

Expand full comment
Raccoon of Vengeance's avatar

Hell, a cop stubbed his toe here and the entire force went out to the hospital for a photo op. There was a mass shooting in the city at the time which got minimal attention from both the press and the police. They knew exactly who committed the mass shooting, but took two years before getting around to arresting him.

The media. A random 19 year old gets killed? Are they a very pretty white girl? If not, the media doesn't even notice that story until/unless their killer is found to be an undocumented immigrant. But a CEO? That's ratings for days.

You remember that plan to deport all the immigrants on day one?

Remember how that plan depended upon the military?

Well you can forget that plan. Because on Friday morning the Health Insurance lobby FLOODED congress with new legislation making the federal government take on the task of protecting Insurance companies with AOT:K National Guard units.

That whole mass deportation will have to be done with sheriiff's deputies and vigilantes.

Because one thing the Oligarches of America have always demanded is the constitutional right for "the common defense" to be, first and foremost, a defense of the ruling class property and lives.

Every time there is a big enough riot in any city where business interests are being burned you can absolutely depend upon the NG being mobilized, deployed and given orders to shoot looters on sight.

EVERY time. I am old enough to remember the Long Hot Summer of 1967. Most of those riots ended with curfews and NG units patrolling the streets with guns.
