No invasion happens without an obvious buildup over several weeks or even months. Plenty of time to organise more defense, move in additional troops. Nato air, missile and sea forces are an hour from Baltics. More to the point, that would be a dekclaration of war against Nato. Nato's response would presumably be to unleash it's entire conventional response on Russian forces, far inside Russia as well as the invasion force.Basically it's an unthinkable suicidal move by Putin unless he's willing to start WW3.

I read somewhere recently that the guy who invented the wind chill factor and the mathematical formula for determining it died, he was 84 but he felt like 68.
