There is power in a union West Virginia teachers have been on strike for four days, shutting down every single public school in the state. It's the state's first teacher strike since 1990, and involves around 20,000 teachers and another 13,000 school service employees; they walked after Republican Gov. Jim Justice signed a bill last week giving teachers a two percent raise starting this July, but only a 1 percent raise for the following two years -- which teachers and staff say isn't enough to keep up with the cost of living. The other big issue in the strike is the cost of healthcare through the state's public employee insurance plan, which covers all state employees.
Majority? You haven’t been to WV. You’re ignoring the Huntington-Charleston-Morgantown middle (ok, Huntington’s a bit off) areas, The SE corner is what comes to mind as traditional Appalachia. Almost entirely poor sounds good, but is inaccurate. A better characterization might be “quickly becoming poorer and less educated.”
Since we are talking about Kristen Schaal. I would urge everyone who hasnt already to watch Gravity Falls. Its one of the best cartoons of the last five years and Schaal voices Mabel. My favorite character. "Remember! Reality's an illusion, the universe is a hologram, buy gold! Byeeee"
....So.....In how many states did the entire "Tax cut all the bidniss and snip all the social network to make more jerbs!!!" actually work?Anyone?Anyone?
Exactly. You can't expect people who are from the Heartland and represent Heartland voters to share "coastal urban" values.

West Virginia teachers should be grateful they don't work in Oklahoma, the one place pay is lower. Damn libtards.
Almost as much as education scares them.

Isn't meth a big problem in West Virginia?
If I could have sex with a voice, it would be Kristen Schaal's voice.
I love teachers, and like to see them compensated fairly. I also like school districts that provide supplies for students.
I. Then again, I have one.

Louise is pretty reasonable when push comes to shove. Bob and Linda would back the teachers. Don't know about Gene and Tina....

Seriously, read the whole article......
The four-day school week really fucks with parents’ ability to work full time.
Some of us union folks wear the thug label proud.
Yeah, I've never met a vagina that terrified me.
Well done! Using your power for good, instead of evil, I salute you.
Oh, whew, thanks! Yes, well, I say if they want to be chauvinists...
