This is how it likely went: “Probationary” employees, i.e. with less than one or two years on the job, fired. Easy one, no notes, don’t let the door hit you where the Good Dawg split you. Never mind that some individual may have been hired for an empty critical position, or maybe one or more longer-term coworkers have left in that year, or because they have unique skills and experience. They are easy to get rid of, with really no right to redress, so it made good TV.
USDA Admits Firing People Working On Bird Flu Was A Mistake
"The Department of Agriculture said Wednesday that it’s trying to hire back fired employees who’d been working on the government’s response to bird flu ― a growing outbreak that’s caused egg prices to soar, ravaged the livestock industry and killed one person in the U.S. so far.
“Although several positions supporting HPAI were notified of their terminations over the weekend, we are working to swiftly rectify the situation and rescind those letters,” a USDA spokesperson said in a statement.
Just days ago, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins boasted about DOGE’s gutting of the department. “I welcome DOGE’s efforts at USDA because we know that its work makes us better, stronger, faster, and more efficient,” said Rollins, who has virtually no professional experience working on agriculture and food policy. Her nomination was denounced by scientists in the agriculture space and reportedly came as a surprise to those in Trump’s orbit.
Over the weekend, the USDA reported that wholesale egg prices had risen by $0.40 in the past 30 days, putting the cost to distributors at $7.44 a dozen.
Maine Sen. Susan Collins, one of a handful of Republicans who regularly go up against Trump, told HuffPost’s Igor Bobic that DOGE needs to slow down because “they’re making mistakes.”"
True fact: As a teenager I was interested in all manner of nuclear science, and sent off to the AEC for a shitload of free literature and handbooks about nuclear weapons and nuclear energy. A couple of weeks later, big ol' envelopes filled with publicly available nuclear knowledge started arriving in my mailbox...every last one of them with a brand new Department of Energy sticker affixed underneath the printed AEC logo.
Fifty years ago. They have had fifty fucking years to learn what I learned when I still too young and gangly to even have pimples yet.
My very first job in trade journalism was at a company that had the most ridiculously incompetent upper management I've ever had the misfortune to see. I'm seriously surprised that these guys managed to find their way to the men's room and back.
After a round of meat-cleaver staff cuts, these geniuses discovered that, oops, a lot of the people they fired were vital to the functioning of many of their titles, including the most lucrative ones. So they did a clawback. Not everyone came back, and the ones that did had sour attitudes. One of them was a graphic designer I carpooled with. He clearly didn't give a flying fuck about doing well at work any more.
Regarding the government employees at issue here, our only hope as a nation is that their sense of duty and the importance of their mission will overcome their disgust at the way they've been treated. Just as our other only hope is that the malevolence of their new political overlords will be overcome by incompetence.
I wouldn't be surprised if the DOGE twerps didn't even bother to know what the letters in NNSA even were and had their AI tell them "cut all 4 letter acronyms starting with 'N' stupid human!"
There is a whole background story involving Trump & American nuclear technology. Prior to Trump Ver. 1 taking office, Generalismo Mike The Christian Flynn was deeply involved in trying to sell American nuclear technology to someone, maybe the Sawbone
Sovereignty. When Trump Ver 1 took office, Trump & his closet business cronies got actively involved. Real actively involved. They actually had a deal done with the Saudis and there were ,maybe 9 contracts already signed and the Saudis were demanding to get Nuke weapons technology as well. At which point the deal became public and it had to be canceled. But note, Trump has always had an obsession with nuclear technology.
What a flockstercluck.
Bird Flu Schmerd Flu; Qvery body knows it's all a plot to make poultry wear masks and be more subservient.
It appears we only thought the first term was insane.

Ta, Dok. We are not amused by the mass firings, but are very amused by your wordplay.

When it is Eric Adams' turn, we'll be monitoring flights from New York to Istanbul to Guantanamo.
Real Keystone Kops kind of handling ya got there, Donald & Elon.
This is all so depressingly stupid.
BLINDINGLY stupid.....
He’s going to get us killed one way or another.
I'm getting the same very bad feeling.

"There’s no formal process.”
These people have been telling us since 2016 that they don't care one iota about process, so I don't quite understand the surprise.

Too bad he doesn't know what the fuck it is/does. Idiot.
His uncle was a scientist at MIT. Trump just gets those things.
Slight correction, if I may: "declaring himself King" should be "declaring himself hamburger King".
