So I think re JD Vance, we need to give credit to the VP debate. I don't know if he won but I really credit it as one of the moments when democrats lost all momentum. Because for all his faults and awkwardness, Vance can turn on the false empathy and seem reasonable even when he's doubting the 2020 election, plus he lies more plausibly than Donnie does. I think he can plug away at this needle threading and consolidate people behind him easier than a lot of people give him credit.
If Vance manages to finish Trump’s second term he will have little problem getting the rest of the administration to fall in line. He would be the only one able to pardon them.
“…a ferocious backlash and midterm elections that will require a more expansive metaphor than ‘bloodbath.’ “
Hope springs eternal, I guess. I mean, I live in TX. I’m 100% confident ICE will be hanging out around polling places in San Antonio, El Paso, Fort Worth…and those are big cities; what happens in,say, East TX, in towns like Tyler and Vidor, will be obscene.
"One wonders if that’s why Vance was so quick to dismiss those Hitler-lovin’ Republicans in their 20s and 30s as a bunch of crazy kids who should immediately be excused."
Maybe. Probably.
I think it's almost certainly that he knows that 90% of his base has done similar things, and 90% of that 90% still do.
Hell, I think a significant number of moderates and centrists have done the same, and not a few progressives, as well. This is the United States. It's in the air we breathe.
Here's the problem. All Vance really has to do is repeal the disastrous tariff policy that none of them love anyway, and the economy will roar back to life. Even though it won't return to pre trump levels, they will have the momentum to point to. Dems must go on offense and unless we get enough progressives in in the midterms, I don't see that happening.
Someone send this to Usha Vance, I think she's JD's last remaining brain cell and hint of a conscience- or at least an awareness of what happens to tyrants.
We need to be figuring out our candidate for 2028. I'm pulling for Buttigieg- because fascist America has shown that it's not ready for (or deserving of) anyone else, but Pete is still 100% worth our time.
I think on some level, Miller knows he can’t move beyond his role as the Oval Office Wormtongue. He was never meant to sit on the throne himself. Even Joffrey would be a more beloved king.
His best play is to get behind whoever is the most likely to win the palace coup and back them. If it’s not Vance, he can still cozy up to him and play Iago to his Othello.
DOWNVOTED for mentioning the Oregon Dead Whale Boom-Boom without linking to the video!
"Bubonic Measlepox" - Great band name! Not sure I want to attend one of their live concerts, though!
Mitch stole 3 seats with an assist from Orange Turd
1) Scalia's
2) Kennedy's by having Orange Turd blackmail Kennedy over Kennedy's son approving illegal loans to Orange Turd.
3) RGB's

applause and cackling for: "the James Carville circuit of irrelevant but easily booked political commentators"

Hey, maybe I’m wrong. Hope so.

"muster enough leverage to toss both Miller and Kennedy"
`
Toss MILLER? You really think Jance Dance Vance is gonna go up against a vicious little fuck like Miller and come out of it in one piece?
It's like dating a Scorpio; even if you survive, it will leave marks.
Too funny!
Ta, Ali. Guest posts are a good thing.

Horrifying yet made me laugh. 10/10 no notes.

"a fitting way for Trump to go; He’ll be thrilled to stick someone else with his debts one last time."
[caffeine spew]
Fuk, did you see that?
