Between Trump doing something good for the country, intentionally or not, or dying of natural causes (which would also be good for the country), I know the one that is most likely and the one that I prefer.

One problem with all rain service but especially high speed rail service is the need to eliminate grade crossings. Too much chance of car-train interactions.

Just getting Amtrak to travel at an average 60 mph would greating improve service. Boosting them 90 MPH would be high-speed by comparision to today's rail service.

So they're basically building a pipeline to funnel SoCal's money to Nevada.

Via a train that moves slower than the cars, according to the picture.

Still angry at VP Harris for flubbing that interview when she was asked if there was anything she would have done differently than Joe Biden. After an awkward pause, she said "nothing I can think of."

She should have immediately said "Not a single thing. I'm proud of all the administration's accomplishments." Then she could have listed them. Standing up for our NATO allies. Bringing down inflation. Record job creation. The CHIPS Act. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. All of it."

That was her chance to close the deal.

Probably the best we can hope for is that Musk directs all unrepealed climate money to hyperloop projects.

Apparently Richard Branson finally Googled it and realized that Hyperloop is a re-heated idea from the 1820's which has been tried about ever 50 since and it never works.

Hopefully “Drill baby drill!” will be every bit as successful as building the wall and making Mexico pay for it.

They don't need to fucking drill, and they never did. We already have more than enough oil and methane gas.

They're counting votes by surname, so there will be lots of spitting out Johnson.

From the TPM liveblog:

It appears a group of conservative members are circulating a multi-page memo, with what they describe as a long list of “fails” under Johnson’s leadership. The list, reportedly written by an unnamed author, includes bullet points about how Republicans added to the nation’s debt and passed Ukraine aid without the support of the majority of the caucus.

It’s unclear who all signed on to the memo or if it’s a sign of additional opposition to Johnson.

Hey anonymous asswipe: Being in "the majority of the caucus" does not make you Lord God of America. You still have to whip votes for individual bills, which would be easier if the ones you support made any sense.

Standing to nominate Hakeem Jeffries of New York, the Democratic leader, Representative Pete Aguilar of California, the No. 3 Democrat, says: “Today I rise on behalf of the governing majority of the House of Representatives.” It is a pointed reminder that Democrats have provided the bulk of votes to pass most of the major legislation that has been approved in the House, from spending bills to the debt limit deal to aid for Ukraine.

A high speed rail triangle of DFW to Houston, Austin, and San Antonio including stops in Waco and Killeen is a must. But this is Texas and commuter rail is communism so it will never happen.

Florida has their Tri-Rail system in Palm Beach, Broward, and Dade, but I don't think it was HSR, and it was never without its detractors.

What's up with the firefighters and RR crossings? Haven't been back there for years, so I missed that one.
