Here is a thought experiment that requires a number of unlikely assumptions. What if Tea Party people had any artistic abilities, instead of being perhaps the most artistically challenged people in History? What if lots of Americans still got a Sunday newspaper and enjoyed a collection of witty, well-drawn comics such as
I was visiting with a former co-worker about a man we both knew who had his health insurance canceled, whose wife has a brain tumor and as well he has diabetes and is now having kidney problems. My former co-worker then mentioned how now it would be illegal not to have insurance (he thought McCain was too liberal) because of Socialist Obama. He has insurance only because his wife works for the Transportation Safety Administration.
Any irony or even the concept of cause and effect is completely unknown to this crowd. If it doesn't come from Fox News or talk radio it isn't true. The teatards cannot be placated and they cannot go back to an imaginary perfect America of nostalgia.
The best humor tends to be subversive. Tea Party Animals are Revolutionaries. So why are they incapable of being funny? Because they lack the capacity for abstract thought, I believe. What passes for humor among them is inevitably hostile humor, never the silly or existential or incongruous type.
"That's sorta like a community organizer, ... but with REAL RESPONSIBILITIES!!" '...Lyin' African!"
I thought they were all witty, except for The Boondocks. Seeing Riley and Huey with stars in their eyes for Glen Beck made me vomit in my mouth a little.
Don't fuck with Mark Trail Boston Globe. He's been hit on the head so many times that he's likely to go all What Th' ? on your ass.

I agree!

Also, Al Capp pretty much was a Teabagger of his time, and kind of an asshole. Ruins the thought experiment.

Ahem. In case it's escaped anyone's notice, some of us STILL enjoy "Calvin & Hobbes".
I'm just saying....
I'm pretty sure Bucky Katt in "Get Fuzzy" is supposed to be an O'Reilly-esqe wingnutter.

The Downward Facing Dendrite is a favorite asana of mine.
