My mom taught me to sew when I was a kid. Thought of starting back up with it again when I wanted to make some simple skirts as an adult, but I found that the cost of the material and even simple notions made it all more expensive than purchasing ready-made stuff. :(

By far the most useful life skill class I learned in high school was typing. (Though it was considered a somewhat effeminate option at the time.)
I eventually learned how to cook, at least for myself, but I can't sew a button without stabbing myself in the chest and aorta.
