Gotta point out to all those quiet, responsible "moderate" Democratic Senators who are aghast at saying or doing anything that would even remotely discomfort MAGA Nazis, this is the inevitable result of your cowardice. Backing down doesn't protect you, it MAKES YOU A TARGET. If y'all had roared like angry lions from the start, Trump's Gestapo wouldn't have dared to touch you. You stupid, cowardly gits.

Apparently, the bar for handcuffing a U.S. senator is now “asked an inconvenient question while brown.” Padilla didn’t burst in. He didn’t lunge. He spoke—politely—while standing in a federal building he had every right to be in, escorted by federal agents. And for that, he got dragged out like a protester at a Putin presser.

The video shows what happened. The administration tells a different story. And sure enough, much of the press leans in to both sides like that’s still a responsible position.

What’s really happening is obvious. This wasn’t about safety. It wasn’t about decorum. It was a warning: challenge the narrative, get the cuffs. Doesn’t matter if you’re a senator, a mayor, or a citizen who thought the First Amendment still applied.

Kristi Noem says Los Angeles needs to be "liberated." From what—democracy? Decency? We’ve seen this playbook before. And we know how it ends.

The only surprise is how fast it’s accelerating.

This part is so critical that Wajahat Ali and Brian Karem did a whole post on it - I'll be back with the link

The Democratic New Jersey Senator who got nailed for corruption? I think they picked him up at his house, but I bet he went out in handcuffs.

Democrat, you know.

I would say that if you have an indictment against a US Senator properly decided upon by a grand jury for one or more felonies (particularly for violent felonies, but even for non-violent felonies if the Senator resists arrest), handcuffs might be appropriate if you are law enforcement at whatever level the indictment is issued for and you are arresting the Senator. Senator Menendez comes to mind. And Doktor Zoom also has an appropriate example (which I would just as soon not know about, since it would be none of my business.)

“liberate the city from the socialist"

`

"Not the kind of socialism that involves blue states propping OUR states up with their tax dollar handouts, of course -- that's different."

It raises an interesting question. If they're purpose in bringing the military in is to replace the Democratic leaders of both the city and state with Chump-friendly Republican administrations, will they then be proceeding on to other California Democratic cities with the same intent?

"Kristi Noem was explaining that, on behalf of Great Leader Donald Trump, federal forces would remain in Los Angeles until they can “liberate the city from the socialist and the burdensome leadership that this governor and this mayor have placed on this country and this city.”"

`

So, if I'm to understand this correctly, it was never about immigrants OR restoring order; they're just invading a US state with the goal of occupying it until they can overthrow the elected officials, or perhaps just those elected officials they dislike.

Am I missing anything?

Felonious senators must be cuffed and summarily stuffed in a secure cell whilst charges are pending. For the freakin' record there OUGHT to be quite a few Rethuglicon senators [as well as a couple three Rethug governors, mayors, caustic council members and virulently loathed dog catcher] cuffed and stuffed in a similar fashion Reich about now.

A full set of manacles are going to be necessary to secure the onerous orange offender.

*** Particularly Pertinent Post Scriptum: Dearest Dok, please try to take it easy and allow yourself to recover from that nasty damned cold. Abandon yourself to bedrest, plenty of fluids, and all of the really bad movies you haven't malevolently mocked to your indignant delight for too damned long. And when all else fails there's always MST3K to satisfy the more acerbic audience.

Easy does so that you can get well, good Doktor. Be advised that we love you to bits. ***

It is okay, even admirable, to handcuff a Kristian Repub Senator as long as the handcuffs are furry and a dominatrix is involved.

It'd have to be fur-lined so they didn't leave marks on his wrists others might notice when he's in the well of the Senate denouncing the sexually-degenerate left.
