When arguing with Libertardians on SlashDot my go-to argument is the Cuyahoga River burning. Of course their argument is that the RIVER needs a private owner, since they could sue the multinational corporations in the perfect courts they imagine full of unbiased and unbribable judges, honest lawyers, and jurors with the wisdom of Solomon. When I ask what would stop that owner from just selling licenses to pollute they reply, "The owner of the next waterway down, of course!"
Lake Erie? Lake Erie should have an owner? It borders 3 states and has an international border down the middle. At that point the discussion generally devolves into profanity and occasionally threats.
Both the tobacco and asbestos industries knew for a fact that their products caused cancer, but publicly denied it for the next four decades. Every executive in both industries should have been executed for knowingly condemning millions to extended horrible agonizing deaths.
People get freaked out thinking about Gacy, Berkowitz, and Dahmer, but their death tolls are minuscule compared to the executives of RJR Tobacco.
I remember my mom crying because she saw a pair of mourning doves for the first time in many years. Yes, I grew up in a city that literally flooded the atmosphere with DDT every calm summer night. We repurposed street sweepers to blow fog down every street after the sun went down. I thought they were cool when I was 10.
We used to have at least 2 bathing suits. One oil stained one for the beach. One regular for pools. And towles. We had 'beach towels'. Not the fancy cool ones today, but oil stained ones only for the beach. I do not remember a time I did not hate the oil companies.
Funny how that works.
Bob Forehead!
Yeah, it's not like the first sentence of the article refers to the anniversary of the law that established the EPA or anything.
Be nice to our columnists, comrade.
The Toxic Avenger to the rescue!

Gotta be better than Strohs, which my dad called "Detroit River water."

I've been a Deep Green since my teens. I remember everything. And now I'm a Union Maid.
Not sure I needed another picture of Tricky Dick.

Can you share more about how you found that? I'd love to do something similar but I don't know where to start looking.
It was the idea of the professors at the university campus where I teach part time. She’s working on a NSF grant for that purpose.
It was hard for him to keep a team together because Kissinger WOULDN'T ROLL ON SHABBOS!
Thanks, Erik. A very helpful reminder.
